Atonement was more disturbing than this movie.

Joker was pretty much a documentary of a mentally ill man without proper psychological help in a huge, thriving city. There's a reason liberals hated it -- because it's true.

Have not seen "Joker", but want to eventually.  That'll be an HBO or Netflix thing.

I did see "Uncut Gems".  I didn't really think it was disturbing.  The end result is exactly what I expected it was going to be, though.  Good movie, and I thought Sandler was brilliant.

Rented it and watching it now.

Kids is the only movie i have been physically angry after watching. I was tense and wanted to beat someone’s ass after it was over. But I’m the one who let myself watch it.

Anyway I hope this isn’t that messed up. Guy down the street took his 13 year old to it. So it’s either not that bad or he’s a moron.

I don’t expect this to be ledger. I honestly have filed that role away as GOAT. I’m expecting this to be a stand alone, don’t think about comics or pretend he turns in to Ledger. Just suspend all and enjoy.

Went to high school with the guy that wrote it.  I was just glad I couldn't recognize myself in any of the characters.

Coasting off of all the joker fame started by Heath Ledger (which, guilty as charged, awesome performance!) this joker following Leto honestly surprised me as better than i thought he was gonna be.
The movie was a dumpster fire tho. The producers should feel bad.

Suicide Squads only good quality was Margot Robbie's ass in those shorts. Those were the only scenes I paid much attention to.

Joker was done by Todd Phillips, who's first real film is called Hated, G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies.  Basically Phillips did a Documentary about G.G. Allin. If you do not know who he was, Google is your friend.

I have not seen Joker, but from what some say, the spirt of G.G. Allin in in there.

I agree.  I’m a huge fan of cinema and own probably north of 10000 titles (not a typo). Joker is one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. What gets to me more is the public reception to it as if it’s a run-of-the-mill super hero film and the way Joker is elevated to a folk hero. There’s also a very strong us/them, poor/rich,  disenfranchised/wealthy theme that’s being embraced by people...kind of like the irony of urban youths hero worshipping Tony Montana from Scarface. Though I felt the movie was brilliantly done, Joke is likely to become the poster boy for ANTIFA.

Wow!   I have a friend who bought one of every title in the early years of DVDs.  He bought tons of DVDs for about a decade.   He spent an incredible amount of money on a collection that he says is worthless now.

Joker was the prequel to Heath Ledger.

Where did that insanity come from?
View Quote
NO WHERE near a prequel to Heath Ledger's Joker.

Comparing the two isn't even in the same ball park. I enjoyed the story in Phoenix's Joker, but realistically it could have been titled anything else and it still would have been a good movie about a dysfunctional man who falls farther into psychosis and chaos.

This WAS NOT a Prequel to a real comic Joker or DCU Joker. The key is Phoenix's Joker mental aptitude and the fact that he was severely lacking in that department. Look back at his journals, you can find stills of it online. He can barely spell his name and form a sentence on paper, everything that happened was a coincidence.

The comic version and even Heath Ledger's Joker was ALWAYS a SMART and conniving villain, who stayed 10 steps ahead of Batman in everything he did. If he got caught, for the most part it was planned, like the seen in The Dark Knight, he planned for every eventuality and outcome way ahead of time. Joker is one of Batman's greatest villains due to his psychotic tendencies and his BRAINS. Phoenix's Joker could barely think of a way out of a paper bag, let alone best the worlds greatest detective (Batman).

To reiterate, "Joker" was a good movie, but I wouldn't call it a prequel to the Joker story line we all know from the comics and previous movie iterations we have already seen. Merely, a movie about a man who loses it all and has nowhere left to go.

Haven't seen Joker yet, but I recently watched The Chekist after seeing a clip posted to a thread here.  That movie is the most disturbing movie I've seen - moreso than a lot of gory horror/torture porn movies that have been popular lately.

After watching real life screwed up videos I doubt any movie would disturb me. I could feel uncomfortable by the idea of it though. I've yet to watch this as I felt by the previews that it would be lacking compared to Heath's performance. Maybe I will go see it now and just be prepared for a different type of joker. I personally didn't care for Leto's joker he just seemed crazy without a purpose and IMHO Joker is always crazy but there is reason for his crazy and it takes you somewhere other than just chaos. Harley Quinn is the only reason that Suicide Squad went over well and is the reason that they are making another movie with her in it.

The wife & I watched it last night.  I will admit, it wasn’t the CGI shit show I expected.  Wife thought it was “weird, more a documentary of a serial killer....”

Anyone else expected “Painted Smile,” by the Moody Blues to be part of the musical score?  It’s like it was written for the movie.  In Googling the song, it seems there are several “Painted Smile” songs, including by Madame Macbre, whom I never heard of.....probably a trans artist, but I’m too apathetic to look.

Joker was supposed to be a broken and/or mentally ill, brilliant man.  The latter makes him dangerous.

Phoenix’s joker wasn’t brilliant, just a broken and mentally ill man.  Not that intriguing to me.  Well done movie but sort of missed the point.

Watched it Friday night.  I was entertained but it's not one of those that I'll turn on if I see it. Joaquin Phoenix did a great piece of acting. Surprised no one has mentioned The Road as a disturbing movie, though the novel was more so.
