There was a sportbike rider here killed a few days ago. He was blasting through traffic, passing in the bicycle lanes when a truck made a legal turn...SPLAT!
The next night they interviewed a bunch of Harley riders for some reason talking about how his family didn't deserve to read all the negative things posted about him on social media. He was riding with no license, no ID, at a high rate of speed on a crowded road. He decided the law didn't apply to him, however physics won that argument. Just cleaned a little bit of the rampant dumbass out of the gene poll. Hopefully he didn't breed before he killed himself. |

He's more leaning, rather than weaving, and the speed is not shown. Geez, do we have any real riders on AFRCOM that immediately know what gyrscopic effect is, and counter-steering? One cannot pass the MSF class without being trained and demonstrating it. View Quote Nobody said the pirate in the OP was diving in and out of lanes. It doesn't take much effort to half-lane split and cut people off. And the gyroscopic effect of a set of spoked Harley wheels isn't any different than other bikes with similar wheel/tire weight. This obviously doesn't apply to bigwheels with massive billet centers and a 300 rear tire. |

Now I'm an ex rider and I'd like to know when the majority of you guys went suicidal? Can anybody tell me why so many seem to crowd the center line to the point of their left hand hanging over into the oncoming lane? You have a whole lane boys. Why crowd the center? View Quote |

Harley Fags HATE my German made, spaceship looking motorcycle. They do not wave at me and I do not wave at them. Just the way I like it.
Well, then there's my hi-vis jacket and helmet that they hate too..... Haters hate I guess. Oh, side note. I've converted two of my Harley friends over to new GSA's in the last 6 months. It's funny to hear them bad mouth their old bikes. They also won't wave at Harley guys either. |

I rode and commuted daily on a sport bike / sport tourer for years. I don't melt and I had gear so I was riding it 9 out of 12 months. (33 degrees is my limit. Black ice on a bridge overpass will wake you right the fuck up at 6:30am).
Here's what I learned - there are douchebags of all flavors riding all types of motorcycles. But since purely by the numbers - since there are more cars on the road - there is a much larger proportion of douchebag / idiot car / truck drivers. I've had a hot young blonde (got a REALLY CLOSE look at here) in a Beemer, more interested in her phone that driving and decided to occupy the left lane - WITH ME IN IT - at 70+ mph, then freaked out when she apparently thought I was passing her on the shoulder? Entire thing witnessed by a guy driving a pick up behind me. He got off at the same exit I did and when I stopped for gas he pulled in behind me. Told me his camera in his truck was recording it and he couldn't believe it was happening. In the "good old days" if some idiot cut me off, I just figured he or she was being an asshole. Sadly now, 90% of the time the driver isn't being an asshole, they just aren't paying attention worth a damn. There are plenty of idiots riding around on $25K custom choppers around here who literally can't ride for SHIT. Like wobbling trying to turn left from a stop. There are some idiot sportbike riders, but mainly they just think a chrome nazi helmet is gear, and stretched swingarms make bikes "handle" better or shit like that. It literally got to be that my commute was more "exciting" than a track day. |

While plenty of people do stupid things on bikes, 4-wheelers as a group have NO room to talk about how much their shit don't stink.

Hanging the handlebars over the line is a dick move. On highways I ride in the left side of the lane. Keeps me in direct line of sight of any driver behind me and gives me more room to move if an emergency occurs (road debris, animal on the road etc). View Quote The darker area can be slick as road film builds up with no tires running there much so I always rode just off the dark area on either side but when approaching oncoming traffic, I'd usually get on the right side just to be somewhat defensive to the oncoming 2 ton chunk of metal. But that's just me. I think that many riders today don't have any background like most of us had back then. We learned to ride in the dirt and mud which gives you experience at handling a bike when unexpected things happen. From the attitude I see displayed by many these days, I'm gonna guess they've never had a close encounter with the dirt, much less the blacktop. It'll be a lesson learned hard when Murphy visits them. |

Gyroscopic effect is not what makes a motorcycle want to travel in a straight line. It's a small factor but 2 wheeled vehicles designed to have no significant gyroscopic forces still self stabilize. View Quote There is also some kind of physics phenomenon going on in the tracking of the front and rear wheels on a bike/motorcycle that makes it want to travel straight. However I belive that the bike stiffening up and resisting turning more as the speed builds is indeed from the gyroscopic effect of the wheels and engine spinning. When you countersteer you are actually making the bike fall toward the side you want to turn. |

Although, maybe not perfectly written, I find the scenario completely plausible. I have witnessed similar douche-baggery while riding. Coincidentally I was on a Honda CBR1000 owned by the motor company (company owned bench-marking bike doing ABS comparisons). Said douche-bag on his bad ass custom, almost clipped me when he lane split to pass me in a 25 mph zone. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
