This. I love rural NC too. I'm in eastern/central part and love it. Can shoot 200yrds in my back yard, great church and community to raise my kids in, 2 hrs from gorgeous beaches, 6hrs from beautiful mountains. Just a great state with great people. |

I agree with the general sentiment OP, but fuck Florida. I can't wait to get out of this goddamned place and go somewhere I love.
There are too many people, there are too many bugs, and it's usually too hot 7-8 months out of the year to actually enjoy anything outdoors. No mountains, no changing colors, etc. I belong somewhere else. |
|
Agreement OP. Loving where you live means never having to go anywhere else. Took me 50 years to find my place
and I hope I die before communists fuck it up. |

I lived in AK for 40+ years. My wife got tired of the winters so here I am in TN. No complaints, but would rather be in AK.

Too many yankee immigrants, and the cities are growing too fast. I'm headed to east TN in 2-3 years.

I have and continue to "tolerate" where I live(d)..
Next move is a serious one...getting retirement age and looking to hunker down and not be bothered if I live another 20 years and I don't have money to be making bad moves... Was thinking of moving around within GA, but now that it's Commie and the rest of US becoming Commie...maybe I will go overseas - at least my taxpayer dollars won't fund Commie'Meruca |

Could someone please describe all the areas of Florida and how they differ?
Things I'd like in an area (not necessarily Florida): - Nice, sandy, clean public access beaches with warm water similar to Hawaii, but in a politically conservative area. - Warm climate, but not Qatar or Phoenix hot. - No brutal winters - Ohio/Missouri/Illinios were ok in the summer, but painful winters. - Nice scenic roads to drive, maybe a 1/4 mi dragstrip within a few hours drive ---- E85 fuel availability at pumps - Places to hike! Ohio, Missouri, Illinois and even D.C. were ripe with places to hike. Texas is 99.9% private property which sucks. ---- Not infested with Lyme disease ticks. Hiking in Missouri was awesome, but the dog and I were always covered in ticks - hundreds! ---- Lack of mosquitoes - Texas is the worst I've experienced. ---- Running water hikes. Streams and so forth. Missouri, Utah, Hawaii were good for this. - Safe with limited urban youths - been to countless 3rd world shitholes, but only been mugged/assaulted in St Louis x3, D.C. and Dallas - Lax gun laws - I'm good as long as I can concealed carry, own any semi-auto, no capacity limits, suppressors. ---- Castle laws, legal protections, and preferably a non-liberal DA/police chief/mayor in case I have to defend myself - Women, not fat - Not ridiculously expensive to live or purchase - Preferably no state/county/city income tax. F'kin Ohio had all three. - No annual personal property tax on vehicles - f'k you Missouri - Less than an hour from a real airport - Less than 30 minutes from a hospital with ER - Less than an hour from a VA clinic and Walmart/Costco |

FL is awesome, agreed.
There are many places I love in the US for other reasons, but FL is home. One thing I hate is all the folks that move here and seem to hate it. Life's too short, move somewhere you like and stop bitching! |

I like sagebrush, salt, religious weirdness and snow personally. Also, our mountain lions don't fuck around.

Live in a great area of Georgia, great county, far from Atlanta. Low property taxes, low cost of living. It's in the mid 60's today, I'm running around with shorts on. |

The mozzies can be bad in certain areas, and certain times, but surprisingly, they aren’t bad most of the time. There aren’t a lot of truly scenic drives, if you like hills, don’t bother. It’s the humidity that I mind the most, followed by the population density. It’ll never feel like home. I really wish I could share OP’s enthusiasm. |
