It gives the immune system of a vaccinated person a head start on fighting the infection, which should reduce the severity of the infection and reduce the time that they are capable of spreading the infection.

But there's also behavioral issues to consider.

Way back when this got started, there were statements that masks don't work.  That was likely driven by two motives - (1) to prevent panic buying of N95s and similar, aggravating shortages due to the government not replenishing reserves that were used up during the Obama administration, and (2) a belief that the general public is too stupid to understand a proper explanation of levels of protection.

Later, after some had started sewing their own masks, and some of those realized they could make money selling them, the statements switched from 'masks don't work', to 'wear a mask'.  Seemed to be a mix of deciding that the sewn masks would divert attention away from N95s, and accepting that a cheap sewn mask is 'better than nothing'.  Social distancing, hand washing, and self-quarantining when sick were still pushed as necessary, but there was a sizable section of the population that acted like the mask was a magic talisman - as long as that mask was on their face (even without putting in the effort to wear it properly), they were safe, and they didn't need to worry about those other complicated precautions.

Earlier this year, vaccinations reached the level that the powers that be decided much of the restrictions could be relaxed or done away with, particularly for those who were fully vaccinated.  Some stores changed their policies to allowing vaccinated people to not wear a mask inside.  A month or so ago, after not having noticed any coughing or sneezing in the grocery store for over a year, I heard someone in a nearby aisle sounding like they were coughing up a lung (sounded like a wet cough).  A few minutes later, I was walking by the end of an aisle when the coughing started up again, and I could see that it was a slob of a woman in that aisle (only person in that aisle, which made me wonder if I wasn't the only one that immediately decided to avoid her as much as possible), with no mask.  If one were to judge by appearances, they would probably expect her to be one of those people that has a list of excuses they can rattle off, any time somebody points out how their decisions and actions are causing much of their own misery - if anybody had suggested that she should be home in bed, it wouldn't be that surprising to hear her counter the suggestion with "I'm vaccinated".

The vaccine talisman is likely to be made into a stronger talisman than the mask talisman.  ...and infection will be spread by people who are too stupid, or too self-centered, to take simple measures that have been taught since the modern understanding of the spread of diseases came into being.

You can't vote if you're in jail, prison, or dead because you took up arms in an effort to push back against the status quo.

Talisman effect.

They have their talisman (the vaccination), and it is a stronger talisman than the talisman they used for a year (the mask), so they are now invincible and can laugh at anyone who suggests that they take simple precautions against disease.  They can now wallow in a vat of COVID filth with no concerns for their health, so all those societal rules (wash your hands, don't cough on people, don't smear your snot on someone else's sleeve, etc) that are so hard to remember, can now be ignored.

The vaccine is being issued under an emergency use authorization, with the manufacturers being given complete immunity from liability.  It has not completed the normal trial process for approval for human use, and is logically considered to still be experimental, while also using tech that does not have the proven track record of more conventional vaccines.

Best case scenario: It would be so optimistic to just accept the claims of those in government and media that are pushing the vaccine, that a person could wonder what childhood fantasies are still believed by those who accept the claims of government and media.

However, one easily observed aspect of this whole mess, is that the people who rushed to accept the instructions of the government, completely believed the "you can go back to how things were before the pandemic, once you are fully vaccinated" claim, and went back to being the same old self-centered bags of filth that they were before the pandemic.

Since March of last year, I haven't had a cold or respiratory infection of any kind.  That is the first time I have been able to go an entire winter and be able to say that, let alone a period of over a year.  A big factor in that, is I didn't have slobs around me, coughing and sneezing on me, and smearing their snot over every surface they could get their hands on.  With the government telling them they can go back to their old ways, it's going to be a challenge to get through another winter without them infecting me with something, but I'm going to try.

Oh, and they can keep their fucking experimental vaccine.
