Quoted: Quoted: Anything that operates over a certain PSI is considered "high powered". Even the 5.56. I think. According to...? @kilrain In brief: After smokeless powder (Poudre B) was invented & the French 8mm Lebel, most armies transitioned to rifle calibers similar with a cupronickel jacket at higher velocity. In the battle of San Juan Hill, US Army & it’s .30-40 Krag were out-reached by Spaniards armed with Kraut 7mm Mausers. This led to caliber changes to match—Brits had .303 Enfield, Krauts 7,92, US went up to .30-06, etc. & these calibers were used in WW1 & WW2. The big exception in WW2 was the Krauts 8mm Kurz (short) in their STG-44 Sturmgewehr (Hitler’s alleged term for the rifle) which is considered the “father” of the modern select-fire “assault rifle” which used an intermediate shorter cartridge, more controllable on full auto, with a lighter cartridge so more rounds could be carried. Actually, the .351 Self Loading Rifle was a similar concept, pre-WW1. Post-WW2, the US Army study re: small arms combat showed most troops didn’t shoot past 300 meters, and the SCHV aka, “Intermediate” concept was “born,” or maybe discussed by the US is a better way. It was part of Project AGILE in Vietnam. There are no parameters re: full battle rifle, vs assault rifle. Yes, .308/7.62 NATO is considered a “battle rifle round,” as noted. |

Must have been a rather random stumbling upon. The news helicopters from Boston aren't even here, yet.

Quoted: LE is spread thin in northern New England. Probably even more so in Maine. Here next door in NH, there are two counties which have a boatload of towns covered solely by state police which might have one or two on duty. Expect an hour response time and not really exaggerating at all. View Quote My county has no traffic lights, and sometimes just two deputies covering the whole county. Some of the towns have police, but many depend on the sheriff. Again, favorable demographics and low population make it very low crime. |

the question is why did the asshat not just shoot himself first and save the rest of the country the loss of innocent lives. there are people who knew he was ill and could have taken steps to help. im glad i do not have that on my conscience.

Of all the places to hunt out there, this is where you were going to be hunting this weekend? That is exactly how it works, people takes years to know a hunting area, set up stands, clears shooting lanes, scout, pattern the deer and other hunters, use cameras to guess which stand out of several stands in the area which one will their habits bring them to tomorrow. People prep these places months in advance of the season. You close an area the day or even weeks before and those hunters have no place to hunt, no other place set up, not to mention their gear like stands and steps are now in an area they can’t go get their gear to put someplace else. Quoted: Because it’s a Ruger? What’s been the issue? View Quote Just the reviews I've seen online; I seriously considered buying one last month - but a lot of online review were critical of the assembly (mostly), gas blocks mis-aligned, etc leading to a decent number not cycling reliably. Seems with some tweaking most made them run but if this dude bought one and didn't really wring in out, that might have cause some of his (reported) issues with the rifle. I'm not a Ruger basher, off the top of my head I have 5 or so in the safe right now. |
