Another one of mine.  Any of the 87/88 Thunderbirds really, but particularly the TurboCoupe.

Ayup.  I was thinking more along the lines of cars that aren't generally all that desirable, yet it still scratches a particular itch for you.  2nd Gen Probe GT is a great example of one I missed, for me.  Never had one, but always wanted one.

3000GT VR4, 300ZXTT, etc...they were special even in their day, IMO.  Eclipses/Talons, not so much.  About like a Camaro/Firebird.

Yeah I agree. I’m not sure why any of the posters started posting the Japanese super cars. Especially the 90s versions are highly sought after cars.

I test drove an 84 Camaro when I was looking for my first car. It had some decent pep but couldn't see shit in front of it that wasn't 20 feet away. That gen is a decent looking car though and are starting to gain popularity again.

Was having to explain to my son that the "badass cars" of my youth (IROC Z, GTA, etc) had ~40 LESS horsepower than the 2018 Honda Pilot SUV my wife drives.

Remember when 400hp was a BEAST for the street?  Now the base V6 Mustang has over 300...the above mentioned Pilot is what...280 or so?  IROC Z was 240-ish.

The rapper Ludacris bought a slightly used Legend back in the 90s, about a year before his first big album.

He’s still got it, and Acura just did a factory restoration of it.

Let's not forget about the last gen 240sx and Prelude. I loved my 88 Prelude SI AWS  but that last gen was best gen. Always listed after a 240 after I rode in a coworkers with a JDM turbo engine in it. This was the late 90's. I loved the last gen RX7 but that's super cliche now. A friend of mine lived next to the owner of a Mazda dealer. He had a dark blue touring RX7. This was long before that movie.

It was supposed to get 54mpg. Best I ever got was 42 but my Dad drove it to Florida and averaged 50. Probably averaged 50mph too.

I test drove one of the “442” versions but ended up with its cousin the grand am. I beat the shit out of that car for 3 years of high school and only ever needed tires, brakes and a starter. Not bad for buying used with 93k on it. I think it  had 118k when I got rid of it.

I had a 1984 Saab 900 Turbo... bought it in 1994 when my first car got wrecked. Man, it hauled ass when it ran well. It would hang with a stock Mustang GT at the time.

The dash was falling apart, wiring under the hood was falling apart (insulation just falling apart and disintegrating). The turbo started leaking at the shaft seals and you COULD NOT get those. You had to replace the whole damn thing. The radiator fans decided to stop working, so I rigged those up to a manual switch.

I ended up selling it for $500 a few years later. Too much of a PITA to keep up.

In the spring of 1977 I was a senior in high school, heading to boot camp a couple weeks after June graduation. Me and a buddy stopped at the local Dodge dealer one night because they had “the car” I wanted to get after I became a E2 with a steady paycheck. It was a 77 “Roadrunner” in black with some goofy red&orange stripes. Did have a 360 V8 and four speed. Probably pushed 150 HP back then. Cops ran us off for being on the lot at night. Later in life I’ve found myself wanting to add one to the collection. Haven’t found one yet. They probably rotted out in two years and went to the junk yard.

Also had a red GT, and that was an incredibly underrated car. Still one of the best handling and fun to drive cars I’ve ever driven. Even handled really well in the snow. Drove that car for 11 years and still miss having it around. The manual GT’s held some value, I’d be very tempted myself if I ever came across a really good one.

Good luck on most of the true nothing cars.  Between rust and cash for clunkers - they were erased from existence.  Cars like the CRX, Del Sol, MR2, Camaro, and Firebird have a following and might still be findable.

I was totally surprised when I saw a dead Ferraro sitting in a yard last year.  I though all of them were completely gone.  So much promise wasted...  Sadly the Del Sol that delivered is a collectors item now.

1971 Fiat 850 Sport Spider

I had two of these; a red one and a yellow one. Thrashed them mercilessly, and they just kept on coming back for more. Neither succumbed to mechanical failure, but both died from Ohio salt poisoning. There's something wonderful about a small-displacement vehicle which you can run at ten-tenths on the street without getting into three-digit speeds. Kind of like flogging a 350-cc motorcycle as opposed to a one-liter superbike. Lots of fun!

I wanted one. Back when those were current, I had a recurring dream where I was driving one up this particular stretch of road not far from my house, and shifting gears as I went along. Quite a vivid dream. Thank you for reminding me of that. They had, what, 53 hp?

Got to drive in a CRX in the early 90's.  It was a fricken go cart.  Great for the city, oddly scary on the highway.  Also road in a LaCar a bit in the 80's.  Lots of the same thing, but worse in pretty much every way - the true Mini Cooper want to be.  In the end, I do love driving in my Golf.  Almost as small, but oh so much more power and nicer manners.

Mercedes 450 SLC

Granted, it's a Mercedes, which you might not think of when you think of a "nothing" car.  But they're available in good condition with 5-digit mileage for under 15k, so I think it should qualify.

It had a 4.5 liter V8 that made all of 180 HP... but I still dig 'em, and if I had the expendable cash and garage space, I'd own one.

There will always be a place in my heart for the Bronco II. Had three of them, they were all fun as hell to drive and were woefully underrated trail rigs.

I rarely see them on the road any more. If I found a nice one for low price I'd have a hard time passing it up. 4.0 or 5.0 swap it and be done.

I had a 4.0L swapped '84 BII in the early 2000s, and it was a total go-kart!  I miss it.  Friend bought it for his mom, and it sat after she passed away. They ended up selling it, as it ended up with severe IL salt cancer.
