Quoted: @TNZ71 Good to hear, that's what I figured it must be and was just looking up what my firmware version was when I read this. Remember to play around with the band scanner and band locking features, I have four that mine found and one stood head and shoulders above the others. Also remember to give the mofi a few minutes to properly reboot/reconfigure after you change the settings before you decide they don't work. I think I had mine set fine at one point but didn't give it enough time and moved on too soon and it cost me some time. View Quote |

Quoted: Yeah I use Verizon for my cell phones and they are fast as hell, not enough data though. Most of us are in the same boat, pretty much stuck paying way too much for some bootleg data plan to get us by. You may look at cellmapper to see what towers are in your area, and then put in a request for fixed wireless service for all providers in your area, some may offer it. Alternatively, there are quite a few microwave wireless operators popping up all over, you’ll need a tower possibly, and a fixed antenna, but if it’s available they are usually well priced and truly unlimited. I can’t get it where I am, unfortunately. Satellite and fly by night cellular data providers... View Quote Yeah I am in kind of the same boat. Already looked into fixed base and no one currently offers service here. We did have a WISP provider working to provide service in our area and they were buying up space on local towers but they got bought out last year by some bigger company and shelved all expansion plans. The only hope is our local electric cooperative. They started working this year to build out a fiber network to their substations and lease tower, pole and line capacity to ISP's. I hope that comes to fruition. Every other cooperative around us has done this but ours dragged their damn feet for years. I have a fiber termination about 2 miles down the road as I know their is no ISP on it. Don't eve know who owns it. I have a cooperative substation about a mile away the other direction so maybe they eventually some year will provide fiber service here. |

Quoted: Well OTR can suck it. After a month of stringing me along with their shit tmobile blast plan with 1-2Mbps upload when I can even get it, they basically said there is nothing more they can do to help. Wanted me to buy a signal booster even though they can't say whether it will help or not. I think it is bullshit because my signal strength on AT&T is almost the same as Tmobile and I had 30-40Mbps with AT&T. Hell Tmobile and AT&T use the same damn towers less than 3 miles from my house. I guess have to find another provider that uses AT&T. What a pain in the ass. View Quote I too gave OTR every chance but like the monkey & the skunk, just had enough. Signed up with Nomad Internet Friday afternoon & a new sim is in the way. $99 a month for unlimited but dont have a lot of choice. Ross asked where I heard about them and told them a web forum. He specifically mentioned ARF & said hed got a lot of business from here. Edit to add Im using an unlocked MR1100 |

ETA: got it working changing apn to b2b... Can anyone recommend an external antenna for the m1 that will help with the t mobile service |

I went and ordered Nomad internet. I will tell you all how it works when it gets here. I live about 1 mile from a T-mobile tower so I hope the service is good with it. I've been using the hotspot on my phone and I have issues going over the allotted amount from Verizon. Just tired of it all really.

Hey , i dropped in here a year or so back, knowing that the struggle is real
We are on Viasat/Exede, 10gigs at up to 12Mbps (lol) , and have struggled for years, busting the limit in days sometimes. SO with the work from home thing, wifes work sent her home with a laptop and a Verizon Mifi puck, well it works somewhat, 1 signal bar...anyone use these? is there such a thing as an external antenna that can be used with it, tried setting it outside but still doesnt help much. |

Quick question. Are you guys getting IP v6 or v4 addresses assigned? I have a few apps that require v4 addresses to access them.

Any advice how to boost my signal? I'm currently getting around 2-3 bars and average more like 2 most of the time. What are my options? I'm running a Nighthawk M1100.

View Quote In order from easiest / inexpensive to most. Try to place the nighthawk in an elevated position. 2nd floor window, perhaps. Acquire external antennas and place accordingly. This may involve a mast on the outside of your house and directional antennas (Yagi) which should be pointed at the closest tower servicing AT&T. A booster kit. Which can be combined with the above antennas for maximum effect. If none of the above works, you're more or less SOL and will be down to switching to non AT&T based service, or at worst, satellite based service. You should explore all other options before going satellite. ETA: like the below post, I only ever get 1-2 bars. It works fine for my stuff, and I screen share / VPN / stream video all day during the week. |

On the bar thing, I see three bands on the tower that I'm pointed at. Strongest signal by numbers is the slowest data performer. Weakest signal by numbers is the fast one.

If your video streaming is crappy it’s because T- mobile limits you to 480p quality by default. OTR can turn off that setting (called binge mode) if you contact their customer service. Your signal strength is not great, about the same as mine is though. It could be significantly improved with external antennae, if you are aren’t already running them. |

I got sick of OTR's customer service. I never was able to get my nighthawk unlocked, so I was never able to switch to tmobile.
I've bailed and moved on. I've learned my lesson with 3rd party resellers. It's fun while it lasts, then it's misery. |

Check into this - https://calyxinstitute.org - lot cheaper, legit, if you can get sprint signal and now maybe tmoblle? no limits, bridge to a better router if needed and go. I have been on it two years without issue.

Finally went to another AT&T reseller for the same amount OTR was charging. They had me up and going in less than 10 minutes and my speeds went back up to 30Mbps from the 1-2 Mbps I was getting with OTR after the switch. Now I can actually stream video again.
Don't care if the are a reseller or not. The go under and I'll just have to go to another until Musk gets off his dope smoking ass and gets me internet that is what it will be! |

My parents OTR mobile AT&T account is still going strong and still getting billed at the old price ($60). I signed up for a month with a different AT&T reseller (t-mobile will not work here) to get the kinks worked out. Once the new service was up and running I got on the OTR chat to see when the legacy plans would be discontinued. According to the chat agent:
"Stacie 13:54 We have no end date as of now, so it should be around for a while :)" I don't know if I buy it, but I guess I will ride the OTR train until it comes off the rails. |

Wish I would have seen that before I signed up for a different service, could have saved myself $100. Any word if there are data limits on their new contract? Some resellers have AT&T limited to 500 gigs per month which is not enough when my parents and brother are home all month long and only have internet based TV.

Received my hotspot device from nomad yesterday. Not sure if I ordered the wrong one. I thought I ordered the one for T mobile but I got one for AT&T. So far getting 2 mbps speed. My phone does it faster than that through Verizon. GOing to try to get one through T Mobile to see if it is any better.

I pointed my external antennae to a different tower and my T-Mobile speeds jumped a good bit. Going from about 8 down average to 28 down. I've got the band settings on my MOFI set to auto so it is picking the bands. 2, 4, and 12 are available.

UPDATE:
I always wanted to say that. I got an email from OTR just a couple of minutes ago. They are now offering Legacy members (you know who you are) the option of "migrating" to their new blue blast plan. It will be $70.00 per month. I will go out on a limb here and guess the blue part is AT&T. They don't come out and say who the carrier is. They ask for your router model no. and IMEI no. There is no charge if you accept usps shipping. Any bets on how much of a clusterfuck this will be? I remember what fun it was the last time they tried this. Discuss... |

Not truly unlimited. Supposedly capped and video streaming is throttled. Someone posted screen shots in a the OTR community facebook page from OTR directly stating this.
Oh if you have a banned IMEI that AT&T caught and cut off, your hosed because they won't let you back on the network with that device. Seems odd that they "worked something out" with at&t, but if at&t actually sanctions it- even if it is throttled- then it is at least an option for people who need it instead of just waiting for whatever plan reseller they have to get kneecapped.
I just wish they (resellers in general) were more transparent. |
