Article soon to be corrected to read:
"US citizen" = harmful language
preferred nomenclature is "oppressor and holder of un-earned US passport privilege"

The implication that 'American' implies the US is the most important country in the Americas is an internal bias.  Maybe the bigots that work at Stanford should look inward, rather than telling the rest of us how awful our language is.

...or maybe Canada, Mexico, Argentina, or Brazil can stop sucking and take the 'crown' from us.  :D

To find out how this sort of BS is based in anti-white racial hate ask these same dipshits how they feel about the term "African American"? And if they still plan on using it. Africa is a broad geographical term and their use of it always excludes tens of millions of non blacks there.

Why any American spends good money to send their kids to these hate filled places full of the dumbest people in the world is beyond me.

No other country in the Western Hemisphere uses the "American" term.

I've occasionally seen the term "norteamericano" (Spanish for 'North American') used to refer to Americans or Canadians.

Some extranjeros do see it as offensive.

In Spanish you could also say Unitedstatesian, but Mexico is also the "United States".

Name one other country with "America" in the name.  They're the only ones who would be confused for Murica.

Back in my ICQ days I ran across a lot of Brits, Kiwis, and Aussies. When introducing me to one of their friends, that person would invariably ask me if I’m Canadian. After this happened a few times I asked why. I was told it was because Americans don’t sperg out when asked if they are Canadian, while canucks get really butthurt if you even imply they are Americans.

It’s a great way to trigger them when they get full of themselves.

Stanford releases guide against ‘harmful language’ — including the word ‘American’

Stanford University released a guide this week on “harmful” language that it wants to remove from its online properties — noting that the term “American” is a no-go.

The language guide, which was published Monday, aims to “eliminate many forms of harmful language, including racist, violent, and biased … language in Stanford websites and code.”

Launched in May, the project, known as the Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative (EHLI), lists the prohibited terms under 10 categories including racism, homophobia and ableism.

Under a section titled “Imprecise Language,” the guide advises readers to replace the term “American” with “U.S. citizen.”

“[‘American’] often refers to people from the United States only, thereby insinuating that the US is the most important country in the Americas,” the packet reasons, noting that the region actually includes 42 countries between North and South America.
