Absolute King if you had one of those.  No doubt.

I had a buddy from day care who had the first and only Kuwahara BMX bike I'd ever seen.  Others were kings, he was the God Emperor.

Same buddy also had a Powell-Peralta Tony Hawk skateboard.  Basically, he owned everyone.  Crazy thing was/is, he wasn't a spoiled kid and he's grown up to be a down to earth guy.  I see him maybe twice a year; we still talk bikes and skateboards like we were 10 years old.

I got a little tool kit for Christmas one year. You know the one, came in the wooden box that opened like a cabinet and all of the tools said, “Poland” on it. I still remember the smell of that case. Anyway, I got a bunch of scrap wood, some nails from the basement and sat out on the back porch and went to town with it. Smashed my thumb with the hammer and smashed it all up. Blood everywhere. I started screaming and my dad came out, Michelob beer in his right hand looks down at me and my thumb and just says, ‘Well. Guess you learned why you don’t put your fingers under the hammer now didn’t you?’ Then he just walked back inside.

The thing I notice most about younger millennials and gen-Zers... they are generally pasty white and chubby from never going outside and getting exercise. (And half the time, it's hard to tell whether they're male or female or whatever the fucking gender of the day is).

Right or wrong, my mom didn't want me in the house during the day.  I was sweaty, hot, and dirty.  My buddies and I were practically pushed out of our respective homes to go outside/explore/ride bikes, etc.

We were on summer vacation, mom and grandma took us shopping with them. I spent my entire summer allowance ($40) on the OG Gen1 Jetfire Transformer. My dad was SO FKN pissed I spent all my money on that thing, we were mere seconds of having to return it when grams came to our defense.

I usually never miss an 80's thread.  Sorry I'm late.

I used to think peak 80's was in 1984, but then I was thinking 1986.   Now I've come to understand that the '85 Bears made 1985 the year of peak 80's.

Honestly, the 1/6 G.I. Joes were a few years before my time. I was aware of them but never had any until now. I really like the Joes with the lifelike hair and beards. I’m going to end up buying a few more. I grew up with the 3.75” Joes. I don’t remember the Johnny West figures.

Gen X reporting in.

As a previous poster commented, the 80's were the last decade of freedom.  This timeline does suck and I want to go back.

I miss big hair, beaver, my old 80 Chevy truck that I got mountains of poon in, even 3.2 beer.  Not 3.2 beer but the South Dakota border bars us 18 years hung out in and drank at.  The college girls with that big, beautiful hair and no fatties.

I miss the homogenous, rural ranching community I grew up at, the old timers that would hang out in front of the bar and grocery store, the old trucks and muscle cars that would be cruising around.

All the good Catholic families with tons of kids running around.  You don't see that anymore unless they are welfare rats.

What a time to be alive!

10 years old Grampa decides I can drive the grain truck next to the combine. I can't push the clutch in... no problem he puts the thing in gear and shows me how the hand throttle works on the dash, says "Keep the chute near the back and I will have you slow down and move it forward as it fills... got it"?

Alright driving next to the combine standing on the seat with the door open so I can see where the chute is dumping in back. Get to the end of the field and his farm hand jumps in the cab and turns the truck around or pulls off so the next one can load.

Anyways one pass the combine has a problem, gramps slows down and stops. So I push the fuel shutoff to stop the truck. I apparently didn't hold it long enough, the engine stopped just right to restart backwards. I didn't know this was a possible thing, but diesels can run backwards. So the truck started going backwards. I'm sort of freaking out, WYF did I do. Gramps is shaking his head the farm hand jumps in the cab asked what did I thinking I bumped the gear shift into reverse. He pusheds the clutch and the truck stops, puts it in gear and lets the clutch out. Truck goes back again. He slams the clutch and tries again. Starts looking around then kills the engine.

"So that's how I know a 6 cylinder catapillar can run backwards." That was my show and tell story in school on Monday.

So I'm 40 and appreantly I'm supposed to be a millennial... I call BS on that.

A few quick musings from my old gen x mind.
Remember when…
Seat belt law was new and a big intrusion on liberty.

Same for strict dwi laws.

SNL was actually funny and worth watching.

Don Kirshner’s rock concerts ended in 81.

Cold War , ending in the wall coming down 89.

Ronaldus Magnus presiding over the shining city on the hill.

We had the best music and enjoyed the most freedoms , long live gen x.
Used to meet up here & then shop for cassettes at local mall.

86... I had just walked back into the dorm from class. I was heading down to my room put my books away to go to lunch. Every dorm room door was open and there were people crowded around TVs. I stuck my head in one of the rooms and said what's going on? They said the space shuttle blew up. I said no shit? And then they replayed it again on the TV.

Same.

Also watched them take the Berlin wall down in school.

I was 9 and couldn’t quite grasp what had happened. My parents explained it to me as gently as they could.

Anyone else remember that horrendous orange sawdust concoction the janitors threw down when some kid barfed on the carpet in school?

That intoxicating smell of freshly xeroxed papers still wet to the touch.

That and the smell of markers on a hot over head projector.

Probably gave us all cancer and we don't know it yet...

@HiFlow

I remember that. Pure awesomeness. Remember Gen 1 Soundwave with all the cassettes? That was the one everyone wanted in my grade.
