They sell them in Australia and they have stricter rules than we do.  If Toyota thought they could sell enough to be profitable they'd send some here for crash testing but they'd also be competing against the Tacoma and Tundra.

I was Toyota’s Australia site looking at those a couple days ago. I love them but my real question is why don’t they sell the Hilux here??  Damn things are EVERYWHERE overseas.

I saw one of those in Saudi years ago.

It was converted into a sorta-kinda Deuce and a Half for moving Filipinos. Anyway, it got hit by a Saudi in another car and overturned. The poor bastards never had a chance.

If Toyota imported that they would want $70k barebones, probably.

I think they would sell, I see a lot of Defender 90/110's driving around. Not the US commercial ones that go for a bunch of money on the used market, the no shit old school models; Surfer/beach bums, trendy artsy women, you name it. I think they look cool as hell.

They drive like shit, they are small, Americans wouldn't buy them, the auto rags and YouTube reviewers would slam the vehicle. The new ones excluded, they are work trucks plain and simple. Great for a third world country, not great for American roads, highways, and interstates. I believe the new ones are more modern and have better road manners.

So it’ll be ugly, impractical, and cost as much as a base Tacoma.

Not a big fan of diesel myself , doesn't seem to make much sense until you get up into a heavy pickup with large towed loads but that is me.

I am sort of looking for a pickup used/new but this four door crap is killing me . I get that lots of folks want the extra cab space (at least that is what is selling) but the extra length in the bed is more useable than the cab

As I’ve pointed out a hundred times, Australia is not the place to compare to. Go look what a Hyundai Santa Fe costs there.

That's what I'd do. I'd be really tempted by a flatbed w/stakes and a hydraulic dump.

Dad ordered my std. cab cummins dually and waited six months so he could get it with a 48re. I've always liked longbeds on a short wheelbase. The difference in practical payload is always way more than it is on paper when the axle is actually under the load.

It makes my truck camper fit in regular parking spaces too.

38k certainly seems more reasonable but higher than I would have guessed. I really do think there should be different laws regarding importation especially used vehicles.

even when Toyota sold Land Cruiser pickups(1963-1967) in the US they were never a huge seller, but in many parts  of the world they were.  small cab, slow(compared to V8's) smaller bed than domestics(even though the 45 long bed was a 1 ton)

That said i love mine and would like a lhd 70 series

Yeah, you know those hack ass Toyota engineers. They wouldn’t build a fully boxed and welded frame quite capable of carrying far in excess of its rated spec for 25+ years. That’s why nobody in Africa, South America, or the Middle East takes those poser mobiles seriously. I mean, only 450 lb/ft of torque, what a pile!

Just like every other manufacture they make different size beds and different style beds. The most common around here is a four-door with a shorter bed.  I'll send a picture If I see one later today.

eta: anyone talking BS about the LC 70 series should probably just be quiet. You have no idea what you're talking about. They have been regularly rated as the top off-road vehicle in the world since pharaohs chariots.

Do you work for Toyota?  You can probably get a job in their engineering division since you don't seem to understand physics.

And 450 lb ft of torque out of a 4.5L diesel is pathetic
