Quoted: Considering the passengers are all rich, they're paying the costs of this search and rescue right? View Quote Ah yes, considering all these assets sit in garages powered off without any crews until submarines go missing the expenditures this fiscal year are going to sky rocket. Amazing deduction. |

doesnt seem to be much in the way of updates. I know a lot of assets were moving in today and some tomorrow.
No news is bad news in this circumstance. |

View Quote I discussed this with my wife. A lot of the USCG/USN assets being used are only out the cost of fuel; they were manned anyway. I'm about as anti-government-spending as they come but I don't mind this particular instance. |

A relative on my mom's side was the commander of the first us sub during the civil war. It was named the uss alligator and started service in 1861 iirc. I would board that old relic before this death trap

Bob Ballard described what a sub implosion at great depth would be like. He said the incredibly fast and violent compression of the air inside the vessel would basically cause everything to ignite like diesel fuel in a Diesel engine. Then immediately be extinguished by the water

Quoted: How many sonobuoys have been dropped? Are they recoverable? View Quote Fair questions. I mean, rearrange the budget to let this last few days take the place of some planned training exercise. This one certainly had an aura of authenticity about it that can't be matched by the typical training exercise. (And yes, I'd be fine using the dead guy's fortune to pay the bills, which I'm sure are in the 10's of millions by now - if he has a billion, his kids won't miss 100 million) |

Quoted: IF they are saved, how long until a movie is made? View Quote That'd be a pretty boring movie. 120 minutes of them staring out the window, shitting in a little plastic urinal, and yelling at the CEO for getting them into this mess. Deleted scenes would have them smacking the controller again and again trying to get it to work. |

Then immediately be extinguished by the water Would you even see a flash? I don’t remember his exact words so my statement is more a paraphrase of what I heard. It was in the middle of a lengthy video of one of his speeches. Maybe had to do with superheated air or something. Kinda like a cavitation bubble. |

Quoted: Correct, CO2 poisoning is suffocating because you can't exhale/off-gas. We can survive ok, down to about 14% O2 (for a little while) but if CO2 gets too high, we can't exchange gasses. At 40% CO2, you would suffocate even if the O2 concentration was a normal 21%. View Quote I have never read that. I know that CO poisoning causes problems with exchanging O2. |
