So basically best case scenario right now the senate will just block new 12+ round mags (and grandfather what's already here), similar to CO, and everyone will go to WV, PA, TN, etc. to get them instead. LEOs won't bother because there is nothing for them to enforce. Great plan. I feel safer.

Once in effect you may not possess magazines for semi-automatic, center-fire firearms with a capacity of more than 12 rounds, full-stop.

And can't have a suppressor.

The bill must still survive the senate committee, the senate vote, and pass the house again if the modifications are substantial.

From my reading of HB961, I believe Rimfire magazines are also including in the possession ban.

I also read it that if you already possess a "silencer" (as of the effective date of the legislation, presumable July 1) then you may keep it in Virginia. New "silencer" acquisitions would be verboten.

However, I am not a Leftist piece of shit so maybe I am interpreting it wrong.

Best case scenario is Deeds and Lewis keep their word and vote it down. It dies, we tell Coonman to kiss our asses until next year.
Most likely scenario is the Senate amends it to allow grandfathering of currently owned standard capacity mags. Coonman laughs at us and we still tell him to go fuck himself.
Slightly less but still viable scenario is Deeds and Lewis fold like bitches and it passes as is. Coonman laughs, Va gunowners must make a terrible choice.

IF (big IF) it comes to that, you could store them out of State with family members or a trusted friend or even in a self-storage unit as long as they are legal where you intend to store them.

I am speaking of what you could do "legally" if this trash legislation becomes law.

Spot on. They'll either grandfather mags, or up the limit to 15, or both and it will likely be done.

No matter what they do, I won't comply with any of it, and I will not be a part of funding the new Virginia any longer than I have to.

The way this bill allows transfers of grandfathered weapons as gifts to immediate family members is strange. Do any other state AWBs allow this? IIRC at least some of the others don't even allow inheritance.

At least it'll allow us to make sure they'll be passed on to someone that is more likely to keep them and maintain them rather than just turning them in or selling them out of state.

Give Sally Hudson from Albemarle County a call at (804)698-1057 and let her know that you're extremely disappointed in her vote and you won't be voting for her in the future.

Also let them know that you're extremely disappointed that she wants to put her constituents out of work, thus making them unable to feed their families. This bill would shut down multiple local firearm manufacturers that employee constituents in her area.

From what I've read, the most damaging part of this bill would be (IMO) the "or parts" wording.

Yeah, they might grandfather owning an MSR and normal cap mags but the "or parts" wording just made the state of VA a "do not ship" state for vendors, i.e. PSA, G, etc..., for anything related to a semiauto weapon.

I could also see how they could apply the "or parts" to silencers.

Senator Petersen,

Several weeks ago I watched as you gave good arguments against a proposed bill in the Senate Judiciary Committee which would have made it illegal for you to give your child a shotgun or rifle with which to hunt due to the age change from 14 to 18 at which someone could leave a gun unsupervised with the youth. Your statements showed that you put serious thought into the impacts of these laws.

Please place similar thought on the magazine and so-called “assault weapon” ban. You sound like a gun owner to me although I am not sure what you own and how you feel about them. If you are an owner I am sure you are aware that even your beloved bolt action 22 rifle or 22 handgun magazines will likely be outlawed by the HB961 coming through crossover, and virtually all common compact, mid and full size pistol OEM magazines that ship in the box from the manufacturer (15 round glock etc).

Thank you
.

It's vitally important to kill the bill in the Senate this year, not just hope for more watering down. 2021 is an election year, which means Dems in districts that could flip will be unlikely to support draconian gun control. I expect the backlash against the current shenanigans to get people out to the polls this fall to vote for Trump and either turn Virginia red again or at least show marginal Democrats that their seats are in danger. Assuming greater Republican turnout in 2020, the fear of that same turnout in 2021 would keep any bad gun bills off the docket. If we can kill this thing now, we might be able to buy time till at least 2022, allowing ourselves more time to build grass roots and organize a counter-movement. But if anything passes this year, it's going to be much harder to overturn it in the future.

True, but as someone pointed out yesterday, if you live in a 2A sanctuary you likely are not going to get charged with anything for magazine possession without a crime attached to it.
