Facial recognition cameras IED sniffers Radiation detectors Thermal cameras Probably some X-ray capability Possibly a focused emp device, to neutralize any potential truck bombs |

I saw on Fox today that one of the intelligence agencies said that "Drone attacks are imminent."
Not sure if it means there is high possibility they could be used, or, if there is a credible threat and an attack plan has been uncovered and likely to happen. |

Hack those things to play The Star Spangled Banner and while everyone is on their knees, immobilized, you could have the run of the city.
Hmmmm.... |

Plate readers and explosive sniffers. The heavy grating on the first 10 feet is probably there because of the prevalence of scumbags in NY who would rape upon them and head to the nearest scrapyard with their winnings. View Quote |

Given their reluctance to discuss them - it's one of two things:
1. Anti-Terror Security Measures that likely infringe on a lot of privacy. 2. WAY Over priced light poles that padded the pockets of some MTA officials and the contractors who built them. equally possible |

I'm guessing they're mostly empty.
If I were a malicious statist, I would put them up with some lights and cameras in them to get people used to the idea without really doing anything, but leave lots of empty space inside. Once the few people who got riled up about their installation settle down, then I'd start installing the millimeter wave scanners, stringrays, and flouride mist dispensers. |

CBRNE detection equipment
Cameras and Lights Cell/data repeaters to assist with load during an incident. |
