I absolutely love it. No grassy taste for me. It’s a must grow herb for me.  It’s a staple for marinades.

Cilantro. Even if we call it coriandre.

Loved it then got hit by the soap curse .

BTW, I'm pretty sure the aversion to cilantro is a genetic thing.

It is. We can taste a compound others can’t that gives it very strong soap taste and smell

Maybe it's like cilantro where it tastes different for people with certain genetics. Because it tastes grassy to me. Cilantro tastes fine to me though.

It varies for me; occasionally I get a bunch of cilantro that tastes like soap and stink bugs

But usually, it's fresh tasting and fine.

It might be the season or something; idk...

I have to wonder...
I don't mind skunk smell either.
I am willing to bet you find it strongly offensive?

You are right, I said soap but stink bugs is closer to it. And it's only tasting like that with fresh herbs for me, not in the powdered form. The sad thing is that until I hit 30 it was perfectly fine, kinda like an allergy.

Anise, can't eat anything with it in it.  Asaofphidity.  Probably spelled that wrong.  When I was a child in rural Arkansas they put bags of asaofphidity around a child's to prevent disease.  I think it worked because it stunk so bad other kids wouldn't get near you

Love/hate with Cilantro.

I do like it, but the taste/scent just lingers too damn long. Also it sticks to your skin for hours and hours even after washing.

I can't argue that point, picking cilantro from my garden will leave the scent on my hands a good while.

Fun Fact: A mouth full of fresh picked cilantro will linger longer than you will care for! Don't ask how I know.

This. Tarragon is phenomenal with seafood or mushrooms.

Star anise is my least favorite spice. I don't hate it but it has to be used sparingly. My favorite is thyme followed closely by Tarragon.

Anise, definitely.  I hate licorice and similar foods.

Ive seen a lot of people say they hate cilantro and that is has a very strong, foul taste and odor.  I can barely taste or smell it at all.  I think some people are just wired a little differently.

I'm the same way with celery.  Most people I talk to say it is bland with basically no taste or smell.
But I have to leave the room if someone is chopping celery nearby.  It smells so foul I usually can't stand to be near it.  The only way I can eat it is if it's in a soup and has been cooked to total mush.  Anything less, and I can't eat it.

I've ground it up in spice mixes and the like.  I use it on barbecue all the time.

But I'd never just eaten a seed until I was leaving an Indian restaurant, and they had some kind of little after-dinner thing you could eat, I guess as a breath freshener or palate cleanser.  It had fennel seeds in it.  I had to go to the bathroom and get water out of the faucet to wash my mouth out.

It is obvious that people have different tastes, and. that strong dislikes are just as varied as anything else.

I can't think of any spice/herb that I really dislike, but while I generally really like almost any vegetable and/or fruit, I cannot stand parsnips.  When biting into a chunk of parsnip in a stew or soup, it looks like a potato so that is the taste I expect, then I get that nasty tasting parsnip...I even like Brussels sprouts and spinach.
