Listen I love Firefly. I mean love it to the point of obsession. I have a Firefly tattoo on my leg. But as much as I love the show I have to say that Serenity is not the coolest looking ship. It was designed to look utilitarian which it does. It might have symbolism for you which is fine but it's not really a neat looking ship.

Of course, the ONLY possible answer is this.

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn40/bub75/battlestar_galactica.jpg

Which one of your piddly, measley ships can survive the end of your civilization, survive several point-blank nukes, fight several major battles, jump into the atmosphere of a planet, launch it's fighters, drop almost 100,000 feet while burning up, then proceed to jump back out, fight a major battle, survive (albeit with MAJOR, but not incapacitating damage), then proceed to fight some major battles for another year or better, all with NO major maintenance or refit in 3 or 4 years?

End of frackin' thread!

This.

The Battlestar Galactica will always be the ultimate warship for me.  Nothing would be cooler then launching a Viper out of one of those launch tubes and going out to fry some frak'in Toasters.

+1. But I call dibs on Thrace.

ETA: And at least one or two Sixes.

Remembers it?

I've got all the episodes on DVD   (the British ones, not the shitty US DVD release)

"Dragon's Domain" episode scared the hell out of me as a kid.

Second place:

Its life might have been short but it had some wonderfully fine lines.

Third place:

One might consider it a land ship.

Well, Bolo 'Ziggy' did use it's hell bores as a propulsion system when the ship it was being transferred on was destroyed.

Originally I would say the Sulaco from Aliens:

But in recent years, I'd lean more toward the battlecruisers from Homeworld 2. Actually HW2 had the coolest collection of ship designs that I've seen anywhere:

Especially this larger upgunned heavier version . If I could choose a ship as my ship to command, this would be the one:

I also like the Ancient battleships from Stargate: Atlantis:

Then there's the Normandy 2 from Mass Effect 2:

The new battlestar Galactica was pretty damn cool looking:

For a fighter craft, I honestly like this design from an as of yet to be released space flight sim game:

While not the best looking, I would put a Royal Manticoran Navy Super Dreadnaught up against any ship so far mentioned.

I looked earlier and couldn't find a decent image of one. And yeah, while they probably aren't the best looking, they're still awesome ships. A battle comparison would be interesting.

This.  Capt. Reynolds makes Han Solo look like the ––––- that he is.

Mal's cool and all, but I think that too many of you have been watching the revised Star Wars where Greedo shoots first.  In the real Star Wars universe, Han Shot first.  Also, be sure to google Correllian Blood Stripe for further education.

I was just about to ask if anyone remembered a cartoon with the space ship that looked like an ocean ship. I remembered it being more like an aircraft carrier, but this one is probably it.

I'd like some info on the show, if there is any available.

ETA: Nevermind. It was called Star Blazers. The originator just died at the age of 75 after falling from his 485 ton ship the Yamato. It was a cool show as a kid.

What the hell? They made it symmetrical? The beauty of Caldari ships is their pure functionality. Being symmetrical doesn't matter in space.

Symmetry matters when you fire your thrusters.

Look a the back end of some of those ships and tell my how utilitarian the engine layout is.
Multiple engine types, mounted asymmetrically does nothing but create headaches.
