Because wagons and hatchbacks are extremely functional vehicles. They're more practical for the majority of people who end up buying SUVs and trucks. That is unless you really do want or need the extra space or an open bed.

It's like a sedan with a lot more storage space, but you still maintain a lot of sedan fuel efficiency and driving characteristics.

I think it must be detuned or something because reading online it says it still does +8 second 0-60 times.

The new Onyx models are nice looking though.

Subaru's are all detuned except for the WRX variants unfortunately I just love how utilitarian they are and love their AWD system. The Audi cars are much sexier but I know too many people that have had hugely expensive Audi money pits.

No. They have a better seating position and more cargo space given equal wheelbases than a wagon. Two things the average driver cares about more than the near identical handling. The CG isn't nearly as affected as you think.

The seating position of a crossover is by far the worst part of the vehicle.   Followed by horribly sloped A-pillars that block your view.  The short wheelbase is part of the stupid buggy ride, not a benefit.  And your right, most chicks are more interested in stuffing them full of shit they don't need from wallmart than noticing they drive like the high c.g. buggy monstrosities they are.

Mini vans are superior in every way to the cuv.  More room, better seating position, better ride, better handling and better looking though that's not something I would argue or brag about.

Wagons are handy. I grew up with wagons. The SUV is a wagon with a higher ride height. I would consider a big block Ford powered wagon like I grew up with at the right price.

It's not entirely apples to apples, especially if we're talking about the compact CUV class that owns the market (CR-V/RAV4/Forester).

CUVs have a seating position that doesn't involve bending/squatting in and out of the vehicle. They have much better visibility than their sedan counterparts. Suspension tuning isn't all that appreciably different, either. It's not like the typical Camry/Malibu/Altima has crisp handling.

Minivans are more relevant when you get into the three row jobs, and that's a bigger tangent from this thread. I think the two biggest drivers of market popularity there are the perception of cool/trendy and the availability of AWD. The market demands it, and with few exceptions, the minivan segment fails to deliver it.

You simply don't fully comprehend the power of good and constant marketing. The proof? You have men talking about how cool their sedans, wagons and hatchbacks are.

It makes it a whole lot less cool with station wagon sheet metal.

Imagine a marketing campaign so powerful that it gets grown men to brag about their station wagons.

I don't get the stigma of a minivan.  They drive pretty damn good.  Ride nice.  Often decent acceleration.  Have way more room than even most large SUV's.  Are more convenient to load and get in and out of.  Get decent gas mileage.  I've even found them to have good snow traction.  I've never owned one, but when I go on vacation to someplace like a national park, I often rent one as my preferred vehicle.  Good rates.

Once when we were late to reach the airport, I extracted every living g out of a minivan to get there through mountain roads.  My wife said she never knew a minivan was such a high performance mountain vehicle.
