No gas check, no lube, no wad. No coating loss on sizing.
The only place i lose a little coating is if two bullets stuck togetjer during the bake. I do wait 24hrs to size as the coating is still curing. |

This is just really capturing my attention. I appreciate the information.
I’m guessing those cases just pretty near last forever with very little attention. |

True but it’s not like a guy is loading a gross of 30 round mags with them. With smokeless you can probably get nice plinking round that doesn’t eat you with recoil, correct? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

Any advice on leaving a bit of uncoated lead at the nose? IA apparently considers fully powdercoated bullets fully jacketed and not expanding. Not allowed for hunting. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

For hunting with 45-70, just buy some bullets. How many are you actually going through? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I thought about this. I usually hand place the bullets on the baking tray wearing latex gloves. I guess you could just carefully wipe the powder off the nose before baking.

So simple it's right there and I didn't think of it. Here I am thinking about coatings that will resist the powdercoat and leave clean lead(sort of like in pottery) and my dumb ass didn't think to just try wiping some off.

The 9s are not. The black has an orange peel texture. View Quote I used to reload quite a bit but never got into casting bullets. I guess it was because I was mostly shooting high velocity rifles at the time. I did try loading cast bullets for a .38/55 1894 rifle that I still have but all I could get was key holes with it. Jacketed it shot just fine. The bullets were sized & lubed when I got them, no idea what the weight even was now. |

Hoping to have a lot of fun with plinking loads. If I can put together a decent shooting load with Lyman's Gould hollow point cast bullet design, might even shoot a deer or two with it. When this one arrives, there will be a round dozen .45-70s here (if the T/C Contender barrel counts as one). Of course, boating accidents, etc, etc. |
