Wood Mackenzie says sector risks being ‘fatally wounded’ by the government

Oil and gas production in the North Sea could halve by 2030, far faster than currently expected, under tax proposals that would cause “irreversible damage” to the sector, according to a report from energy consultants Wood Mackenzie.

North Sea oil and gas companies have already dramatically scaled back their activity while they wait for a decision on taxes in next month’s Budget. “The ongoing uncertainty makes planning extraordinarily hard and financing all but impossible,” said the report.

Companies will have to pay 78 per cent tax from November, after an increase in the “energy profits levy” (EPL) windfall charge that was originally introduced in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, when energy prices jumped.

They also face the prospect of losing capital expenditure and investment allowances, after the government said it planned to close “unjustifiably generous” tax loopholes.

Wood Mackenzie said in the absence of more information, companies have made contingency plans for the EPL to continue indefinitely and for all allowances to be removed.

“This scenario would wipe out £19bn, or 65 per cent, of the UK’s remaining development capital expenditure, halve UK production by 2030, and all but eliminate industry cash flows by the 2030s,” said the report, circulated among its clients and seen by the Financial Times.

The study was entitled “Closed but Not Protected: Excess Deaths Among the Amish and Mennonites During the COVID-19 Pandemic.” It appeared in the Journal of Religion and Health on June 11, 2021.

In reading the study, I found the authors and backers clearly seemed to intend to publicly debunk the Amish approach to Covid—but in reality, looking at the data, I saw that the study did quite the opposite.

By way of background, the Amish population largely rejected public health recommendations during Covid, but fared no worse in terms of health impact than the rest of the country that masked, isolated, and vaccinated. That’s according to available data, and even the federally-funded study in question. Those findings imply the US could have avoided experimental vaccines that have serious side effects; and circumvented costly shutdowns that devastated the economy, travel, businesses, mental health, and education at the expense of trillions of US tax dollars.

But the study was titled and written in a way that seemed to imply something false: that the Amish died in greater numbers for having rejected the CDC guidelines!

The full moon will reach peak illumination in the United States on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 10:35 PM E.T., according to NASA.

The moon will appear full for about three days, from Monday evening through Thursday morning, the agency said, adding that this full moon will also feature a partial lunar eclipse.

What is lunar eclipse?

Lunar eclipse is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the Earth passes between the sun and the moon. This causes the Earth's shadow to fall on the moon, making it appear darkened and reddish.

For this particular event that takes place during the harvest moon, the moon will start entering the Earth's partial shadow at 8:41 PM E.T., and the full shadow at 10:13 PM, according to NASA.

The moon will finish exiting the full shadow at 11:16 PM and the partial shadow on Wednesday morning at 12:47 AM.

What is the Price of Justice?

Have a guess...

Recently I represented myself against a team of government lawyers during a 13-day trial over 6 weeks…. and won! That’s great news, isn’t it? But there is a twist that has become far more important to this story than the victory itself.

It will have you asking…what is the price of justice?

Imagine you’ve been wronged by a government body.

Imagine your liberty was taken from you without just cause.

Imagine that no one was willing to take accountability or admit any fault.

Imagine you got offered a measly $15,000 with no private or public vindication.

If you take the money, you have permission to keep asserting that you think you were wronged, but you will never get closure. It will always be ‘your word against theirs’.

Who benefits if you take the deal?

Well, the government benefits because they’re using tax-payer’s money to pay you off anyway and they will avoid public embarrassment or taking accountability.
You win a bit of money and avoid the stress that comes with a long-winded trial.

Who else benefits?...NO ONE!

You get to skip away into the sunset with your ‘hush money’ (the bribe), and nothing changes for anyone else. The government continues to feel emboldened by their limitless power and gets further confirmation that they are invincible. The ‘little people’ like you and I stay in our box and accept that we are powerless against authority, even when we’re the victim.

Who benefits if you DON’T take the deal?

The court makes money regardless of what the trial is.

The team of lawyers bill out their hours as usual. They get paid regardless of the outcome. And hey…the longer the better.

You might benefit because you get to air your grievances publicly and have a chance at vindication and closure.

The most impactful thing would be that if you set a precedent, it could benefit every single person in the country! The government might be forced to take accountability and implement new policies and procedures to ensure other don’t lose their liberty without just cause.

So, what do you do? These are your options; take the money, avoid inevitable stress and at least a few people benefit…including the perpetrators!
OR… say no to ‘hush money’, pursue justice, have your voice heard, and hope that more people benefit in the end, despite the risks.

Oh, and don’t forget the twist.
If you choose to run the full trial and win, there is a possibility you could have to pay the cost of the government’s legal fees. You could have to pay for them to lose their case! If the judge gives you the public vindication you are seeking but awards you less money than they offered you to shut up…technically you lose because the outcome would have been ‘better’ if you’d taken the deal.

This is an old family farm with modern diversification. All the food on this farm ends up on the tables of American families - and that is important in Smith County.

“I do not want to be dependent on another country for food. If I control your food, I control you,” said McDonald.

Like most farmers, McDonald worries, but not just about the weather. The Farm Bureau says Tennessee is losing 10 acres of farmland per hour, meaning 240 acres gone forever every day.

May not matter today, but one day that could add up to affect the food supply.

“When everyone got up this morning, I dare say they weren’t worrying if there’d be enough food for them to eat that day, or if that food would be safe, because we take it for granted. It’s a national security issue. It’s not just a food issue,” said McDonald.

But in Smith County, the future of this farm is not at issue. McDonald's daughter Sarah is making this a fifth generation family farm - a decision which has made George McDonald’s life complete.

“When I put a small seed in the ground with the faith that it will be blessed with enough water, sunlight, favorable weather to produce a crop, to be able to harvest, that's faith, that’s commitment and that’s dedication,” said McDonald.
