I didn't know much about it going into it, and southern Daniel Craig threw me off, but as I got into it, I enjoyed it. It is underappreciated. My FIL watched it and couldn't get over the fact that it was a mystery movie, not an action flick.

And no worries, we are all in this together.

I'm thinking that these scales have to go.

The good news is that I discovered that the pivot screw was loose. Snugged it down and the slight play is gone and the action and centering are improved. Next step: blue loctite, but not until I replace the scales (or decide not to).

It got old picking up 20 plus knives from all over my office and stuffing them in the filing cabinet every time someone might come in, only to take them back out and spread them out so they could breath.

It is different though, not being able to see them all at once. It is a very nice case. But I have to open one drawer, then another drawer, then another, then think about what I am doing for the day and what the best fit will be, then open the drawers up in turn again.

It's very stressful.

I'd still eat Popeye's whenever I could. The only one near us takes about an hour round trip and the service is horrible. We've never been there and had our food in less than 20 minutes. I've had to go in multiple times because they jacked something up and the place was always filled with smoke from the fryer.

Then biscuits though.

Lighting still kinda sucks but I originally thought the Chef and Drunken were similar due to their blade shapes  and handle styling despite being designed by two different designers.

Show sides

Lock sides

Spine side (crap lighting didn't help)

Edge side (same issue) but you can see the texturing in the lockbar.

Love the sheepsfootish blades but the Chef is noticibly taller and really knice for cutting on a board

It's hard to see but the Chef has a belt satin finish and the Drunken has a near mirrored washed finish.

They both have the hump on the spine which gives them a great grip but the Drunken does it better.

Been waiting on this for a couple weeks

Wasn't sure if it would be my thing, but reading up on it, they said they were only doing one run because the difficulties to execute the design were just too much, it was seven years in the making. Figured, should be easy to get my money back if it didn't pan out and there were a lot of design features I liked. They usually have their stuff made in the US, but for this one, I heard after purchasing that they said they had to "off shore" it to make it happen.

nice presentation. embroidered.

My initial thought when I heard off shore was WE or Reate. Someone else mentioned Maniago. PDW is staying tight lipped.

This is not WE or Reate. Or I would be very surprised to learn it was. I've handled enough of those.

It is very nicely done, but there are a few very very minor imperfections that I don't think WE or Reate would let slide. Well, maybe WE would, but this doesn't feel like a WE in other ways. There is a small scratch in the finish of the bolster lock and there are a couple tiny tiny voids in the G10 where they don't touch the liners on the edge. My finger nail just barely catches in a few places where the G10 meets the Ti on the face of the scales. Not trying to nitpick, just doesn't feel like this is WE or Reate production. Gonna go with Maniago, but not Viper. I believe someone was suggesting Lionsteel. I have not handled a Lionsteel, but from what I have seen and heard, that would not surprise me.

That aside, this is a neat design, lot of thought went into details, which is to be expected, PDW is a design company. Feels great in the hand, much better than expected. It is light, but not so light that it feels cheap or flimsy. Solid, but not in a heavy clumsy way, more reassuring. Action is great, lockup is great, centering is great, size better than expected. The only design aspect that is a little bothersome given how much thought they clearly gave everything else, is that the pivot heads sit proud of the scales as the scales taper to the finger choils. End of the world, no, but it is inconsistent with everything else they were trying to do by design. Other than the items noted, everything else is perfectly flush.

Really well executed. I like it more than I thought I would.

Kinda funky lock bar too. Stays straight with the liner and then cuts in at the last stretch.

Frankly, with it's size and how it feels in hand, it reminds me in a lot of ways of the A-100. Which I also really like.

PDW is staying tight lipped.

https://i.imgur.com/Afpo3Mwl.jpg

This is not WE or Reate. Or I would be very surprised to learn it was. I've handled enough of those.

https://i.imgur.com/OjORzxrl.jpg

I like it. Definitely unique.
What steel?
It sort of has that Italian look. They like rounded spines. Almost looks like it may have been done by Viper.

PDW as in Prometheus Design Works?

I like that. I've been talking myself out of an MKM Terzoula Clap that has a very similar blade shape.

The design though is from PDW here in the US. They have done a number of knives with variations of this design.

Oh, and it has GITD thumb stud inserts

now I can be one of the cool kids

ETA: It's their Invictus design. I had been looking at them a while back and was pulled in actually by their use of dendritic cobalt blade steel. Interesting stuff. I think there have been some Protech versions too. And if I find it, someone had a picture of how similar this design is to the A100 and a Gerber from way back, maybe the Applesomethingsomething?

Yes, Prometheus.

It is Terzuolaesque in a way, but I like this much better than the Terzuola designed Drop I checked out.

I was looking at the Clap when I was researching MKM few days ago.  I was kinda diggin it, until I saw the OAL. If it isn't at least 8", it is going to have a hard time finding a place in my rotation. There are some exceptions, but generally, I just can't seem to warm up to anything shorter.

I'm pretty ambivalent on the chili debate. I like them all.

That looks pretty tasty. Nice knife and gun combo

I just like that nice sized fuller butter groove on the blade.
It will make a great steak knife.

Are the studs tritium or regular GITD?

Yeah, that is part of what's stopping me, but I think it still might be big enough that I'd carry it often. It rides that too small/just right line a little too close. Would be nice to check one out in person, that would make my decision easy.

That is very nice looking, the swag is pretty cool too.

Looking at the spine jimping, the inset in the back of the knife and pivot I'm thinking it's Viper.

It's a cool looking knife and the fit and finish look exemplary.

Pictures are really nice too. Looks like a PDW catalog shoot

Huh, you and JABA on the Viper.

With the Viper's I have handled, I'm not sure they are capable of this level of execution.
