I am pro LEO, no apology for that but I know full well LE will not be at my door for a legitimate reason and anyone claiming to be LE is/are an impostor(s) If I suspect an error I will suggest they call me and step back. If they do not have my number they are not LE, if they are they will prefer to be sure and cal me and of course realize they are at the wrong address and everyone will be safe. At no time will I be in a vulnerable position nor will I be unarmed (but also not visible to those at the door) I feel I must protect LE if they are making a mistake and not look for an excuse to overstep. |

Lots of talk of "answering the door in a criminal manner" , "holding" a gun , "pointing" a gun etc
All despite the Police not actually detailing HOW the homeowner was in possession of a firearm. It could be any of the above. It could also be a holstered gun. It could be a gun propped in the corner behind him. There are lots off ways to possess a gun including not even touching it. Yet - lots of blame for the occupant without knowing the details. |

Obviously, the homeowner should have called the police and reported armed men trying to break into his house.
Since dispatch had no record of anyone going to his address, they would have figured it was someone impersonating police and dispatched a second car. Then, when the lost cops get rolled up on by the new cops, they can shoot it out with each other while the homeowner sits safely inside his house. Modern problems require Modern solutions.

As a serious question, how is it becoming/ has been so common for police to respond to a wrong address?
Seems like glaring stupidity that we should demand to be unacceptable under any circumstance. I don’t support the idea of a federal police force, but it does seem like standards need to be raised across the board. |

It IS possible to look at a "civilian" holding a gun and decide he is NOT a threat. In fact a few replies actually described times they answered the door to police holding guns. And did not get shot. It is a fact that a small minority of police over react ( not just to seeing a gun ) I would not be in the least bit surprised if the bodycam showed the police over reacting to a gun possessed in a non threatening manner. |
