It's been basic knowledge since interstates were invented that you move your slow ass into the right lane and let people pass on the left lane when driving OUTSIDE of the city limits. There was never a law needed until the mental midgets started getting a license and thinking they own the roadway. Slower traffic in the right lane allows for people to exit the highway and enter without impeding the flow. A lot of states have enacted laws about it and it's also for emergency vehicles to get through using the left lane. Even Tennessee enacted the "Slow Poke Law" to keep them out of the left lane as well as numerous other states.

Arizona does not have a “speed limit”. ARS 28-701.
The signs on the highway can be used to determine a violation, but abiding or not abiding isn’t the delineating factor. You can get a “speeding” ticket for going 55 in a 75. The law says reasonable and prudent. It’s not R&P to go 75 in dense fog even if the sign says that’s the limit. It could be R&P to go 75 in a posted 65 if you’re passing. It’s not R&P to camp in the left lane at the posted limit when people are passing you on the right. |

  Not sure why it’s such a hard concept for people to understand. People like to argue that if they’re driving the speed limit they did nothing wrong. That’s like arguing you weren’t speeding when you failed to yield to traffic when you had a yield sign or driving straight through an intersection when you’re in the left turn only lane.. you weren’t pulled over for speeding… |

Nothing new. I have known several officers over the years that will pull over people either going the speed limit or under the speed limit in the left lane during rush hour.
This was done as far back as the 80s It is considered dangerous driving and impeding the flow of traffic. Not to mention alot of people are aggravated during rush hour and it could escalate to someone doing something to the person impeding the traffic flow or to drivers doing reckless behavior trying to get around this person. |

If someone is already going the LIMIT and you want to pass, it requires SPEEDING to do so. Most of the idiots in here have probably never even been to AZ. We all drive fast here. 80-90mph isn't uncommon. Actually finding people driving the speed limit IS uncommon, in all lanes. But that doesn't make it right either. That isn't "getting it right". That's making up your own damn rules. Again, slippery slope. I'm advocating that speed limits themselves be re-evaluated since clearly no one follows the law. |

If you exceed the posted speed limit you are opening up the possibility of being stoped and cited for that. If you merge into the left lane, the passing lane, then it should be to pass/overtake a vehicle traveling slower than your vehicle. Once you have completed passing/overtaking the vehicle(s), just back into the center or right lane. |

It is a passing lane and if a driver is not passing or preparing for a left hand turn, they have no business driving in the left lane. TN has TCA that states the left lane should be used for passing or preparing for a left hand turn, otherwise vehicle should be driven in the right lane. OP should have started thread with, "AZ Sheriff pulls over Texan for for driving in the left lane." It would have been more honest and far more accurate. Also, the greatest police power is the power of discretion. Most police in my area give drivers between 10 and 15 mph over the speed limit before they stop and cite the driver for speeding. People who drive in the left lane side by side another vehicle in the right lane should have their driver's license revoked. |
