Gold Star, followed closely by Skyline.

Hormel only after the bars close with heavy mustard and onion

I make mamwhich, add onions, diced jalapeños, garlic.  I use that for chili dogs

If you don't want to make home made (Find a recipe from PA or West VA), any of the commerically made stuff that does not have TVP in it is ok for run of the mill hot dogs.

Why would you put stewed quality chunks of beef on a hot dog? That don't make no sense.

I’m with you here.

I’m normally on the bean side of the weekly chili brawls here, but yeah... why waste quality meat on a pig missile?

A can of Hormel chili dog sauce will do fine.

This, this right here. Klinger from the original MASH series made the place famous. Great hotdogs, brats...

Toledo, Ohio if I recall.

I pick up a tub of chili from Tommy's out here in California (they also have Nevada locations).  Best chili of that style I've had so far.

Both are quite acceptable.

Ate a lot of GS and Skyline since 1994 when I was visiting one of my college picks that year.

I do away with the dog and just fill the bun with chili.

Add the usual toppings of your choice.

Always a good homemade first, but for something quicker you can't go wrong with Stagg's Reserve.

Hot Dog chili should not have cinnamon and cloves in it...

Those flavors work best in baked goods.

Best topping I've ever had on a hot dog was what they call Michigan Sauce. For those that don't know it's basically a meat sauce made with ground beef.(No beans) Very similar to chili but different.

No beans = hot dog sauce.

TrumpWrong.meme

No, beans and rice etc. are cheap filler, having them in chili is ok if you're a poor but they're not what makes chili chili.

I recently tried Skyline from a can. It was runny slop that had the texture of mulched cardboard. A quarter of the can was nothing but water and the "cinnamon meat" liquefied when heated. it's an abomination to call it chili and its liberal application demeans the mechanically separated meat extrusion known as the hotdog. A hotdog with Skyline could figuratively be derided as a soup sandwich because that's literally what it is. It's a waste of a hotdog that could and would be more refined and sophisticated if chopped up and thrown in a $0.34 box of  Great Value Mac&Cheese or served with ketchup and dinosaur shaped tater tots. The only reason Dirty Harry was disgusted by ketchup on a hot dog was because he never had one with Skyline chili.

No wonder it's served on spaghetti. The noodles are nothing but desiccant, soaking up the Fall-flavored spice water that oozes from the beef pulp like sweat from Rosie O'Donnell on a Peloton. But then again maybe I'm wrong. But would you take culinary advice from a state whose most popular backyard sport they named after their buttholes, can burn water, and was willing to fight Michigan for the honor of keeping Toledo? I didn't think so...

strange that you called it chilli and so many people responded with meat sauces. try a few and pick your favorite. try wolf hot dog sauce. skyline is decent too. as is the great value brand. all good brands to leave in the car for when texans try and cook "chilli" and bring you pasta sauce and pretend its a meal.

Ketchup doesn't go on a hotdog - ever. Anyone putting ketchup on a hotdog is living life wrong and destined for eternal damnation.

Chili on a hotdog makes it a chili dog.

Once in awhile I need a chilidog casserole. Today was that while. I knew from the start it was a knife and fork ordeal.

Two cans Hormel, one hot, no beans, blendered.

Flour tortillas, cheddar, etc. Some cheese rolled up with the dog, some on top.
