I think they are neat. I have an Electric riding mower and push mower and a garage full of battery operated tools. Never going back to gas for yard tools and such.
As far as Electric Vehicles, I do like them, but the tech is not "there" yet. If one worked for me, I would have one. It won't work for me, so I don't. When we get to minimum 500 mile range with NORMAL use, and a recharge of, let's say 10 min or so, and they are on par cost-wise with an ICE vehicle, then we'll talk. |

I think of modern EVs the same way I think of the ones existing around the 1900s - an interesting and clever diversion, but the internal combustion engine put them in the dirt. Today, its the same - they are grossly heavy, there are few charging stations, the batteries don't last, they are extremely expensive and they don't have much range. Still, I don't think they should give up - technology might catch up with the EV and make them practical in 20 years.
If the local, state and federal governments would really get serious with using them, like the post office, police forces, government car pools, etc., that would be one of the most important steps toward increasing use by the public. |
|

I think some people of all ages and stripes are enamored with gadgets and new tech. I have zero issues with people trying one because they're interested in the technology.
Beyond making allowance for that, I think EVs are kinda dumb, really. |

I also think Hybrid will end up being the route we should go for the majority of vehicles. |

Because of the solar system, we'd literally never have to spend a penny of charging because we'd just charge the truck off the house. Even the Big Island is small enough that you could drive anywhere and back on a single charge - so we'd never have to look for a charger either. In the event of some huge disaster or TEOTWAWKI, gasoline would run out VERY quickly, since it has to be shipped in - and so while everyone with ICE vehicles would basically have no transportation, we'd continue to have infinite transportation (as long as the vehicle itself didn't break). Obviously, for most people, that's not the scenario they'd be in, but for us, an EV would be far superior to ICE in an emergency. I have no problem with EV's when presented as an OPTION for the buyer. They can be convenient for some use cases.
Where I push back is when Big Daddy EPA and Liberals decide that EV's will be the ONLY choice for consumers by removing other options, so they can "help" people make the "correct" choice. This includes taxpayer funded rebates for EV's to "help" people decide. If EV's are so good, then people will buy them WITHOUT govt forcing their hand. |

I just bought a new Tesla model 3. We went for a test drive a while back when they were making deal on the old model to clear inventory. Holy shit was it fast. That’s what interested me. The new model came out and I was impressed with the tech of the thing, styling, performance. Everything. So I bought it. I don’t commute. They are not green regardless of what the fanboi’s want to tell you but they are fast and fun to drive.
I also have a F350, a Subaru ascent, a 77 ford pickup, and a 66 Cadillac convertible, and I don’t give two shits about saving gas money. |

EVs have a good use case.
The problem is, industry wasn't allowed to properly develop them, because EVs were forced into production with government subsidies. So we're left with gov sponsored EV crap that came to market prematurely. Remove gov money from the equation, and eventually industry will deliver a more mature product that makes sense. |

My employer provided me with a Bolt EUV as my "commuter" vehicle. I drive roughly 60 miles per day, round trip. I'd rather put those miles on a vehicle that someone else is paying for than my own!
It is finicky about charging, but I have a spot to charge it at the office and they paid for me to put a spot to charge it at home. FWIW, I rarely charge it at home unless I use the company car to go to the gym or something like that. Would I buy one for myself? NO Would I drive one that someone else is paying for? Hell yeah, brother! |

Neutral. It’s just a car, an object.
It can’t be left or right, in the same way guns don’t kill people. I don’t own one, but would consider it if I get whole house solar. With the way electricity and gas prices are going, at some point it all makes financial sense. |

Not for me as we live in the country about 4 miles out of a small town. The next big shopping area with stores other than Walmart are a 30 minute drive. I don’t work in an office cubicle either and I need to actually haul and tow things. I don’t begrudge a suburbanite with access to a charger for owning an EV however.

They have a place, but they are not ready to replace ICE vehicles.
Infrastructure and range are the biggest drawbacks. The government should have been building infrastructure (directly or indirectly) instead of pushing EV's. Independent of EVs, our grid needs to be re-vamped and improved across the board. |

This is where I admit I rode in a Prius once and it was pretty neat.
I would definitely consider a hybrid. I certainly don't want to be tethered to a battery only vehicle at this point. I expect I will be dead before the technology advances far enough to consider EV only. |

I feel the exact same way about EVs as I do about tranny blowjobs. If you want one, get one. Just don’t force me to get one and sure as hell don’t use my tax dollars to make them more affordable for you.

First of all, Teslas are awesome. Not only are they the best American made passenger car, they are also a product of Elon Musk, the greatest living American.
I definitely consider them a neutral. Probably they are going to become more of a conservative car going forward. |

I would consider converting an ice pu to 144v lifepo because it is not proprietary, and you can charge it directly from a genset while driving.
In a small pickup you could get 2 miles/kwh average so a 30kwh battery would go 60 miles, add a 4kw genset in the bed and you are unlimited. The advantage of this strategy is you can repair ir yourself with off the shelf parts from any supplier. |
