My favorite seems to shift from time to time.
Cowboy movie specifically, or western in general? I love outlaw josey Wales and Unforgiven, but neither are “cowboy” movies IMO. Neither is “the searchers” (great westerns all, though) Lonesome Dove is great. Open Range is pretty good. |

My favorite western, and JW movie, is The Searchers. While I do love Rio Bravo, McLintock, Big Jake, Chisum, etc., The Searchers is by far my favorite movie of his.
I don't know if any of those are the "best"; but they are some of my favorites. Tombstone is also one of my favorite westerns. Along with the "Man With No Name" trilogy, with Eastwood, and The Outlaw Josey Wales. |
