If I want something that's quick, and handles, I'll get on a motorcycle.

Always been a bike guy,have owned a high 9 's street bike,but my '67 El Camino SS

I've had what I figured were quick cars in the past.

71 Dodge Demon with 340 and 727 transmission.

67 Ford GTA with 390 and C6 transmission.

93 Mustang 5.0 manual transmission notchback coupe.  Wish I still had that one.

But probably my current vehicle.

A 2023 F-150 Rattler 3.5L EB.  400 hp and 500 ft lb of torque in stock form is pretty sweet for this old guy.

Straight line my 86 1911-Turbo (930) but my 79 911SC was set up for the track and on a road racing course could turn better lap times

That was 30 years ago when those 2 were pretty close to the fastest cars on the road. Today they are barely mediocre

Now I drive a E350 coupe like a 74 year old boomer which has a faster 0-60 time than either Porsche but 5.3 seconds is nothing today

79 Buick Regal with a mildly built Small Block Chevy and a 7x Chevy Vega with a similar built SB...
Not sure of the 1/4mile ET, but they would both pin you back in the seat and if the front wheels didn't come off the ground on the Vega, they sure we're getting much grip....

I'm not really a speed or tire burning guy though...  I'd rather go slow and low and look good doing it.

Quickest was an 84 Firebird with a mildly built LG4, T-5 with Hurst shifter and a HyperChip in it. Got totaled by some drunk college students driving their Jeep the wrong way down a one way street in Charlotte back in 91.

Fastest I think was our 89 525i, as I think it would have a few more miles an hour in it than the Firebird but it was close.

Fastest car you owned.  Technically I've had a station wagon, two SUVs, and a truck.  So, probably the only "car" would be the old Outback, and if you count SUVs, the late model Expedition.

Now bikes on the other hand, I had a Ducati ST3 that was fast and comfy.  Great way to get a ticket in comfort.

If curious....way back when I was into it....they had (so probably have much better and cheaper now) a gps dash unit that does 1/4, 1/8 times. 60 foot etc.. I used it for tuning, mainly traction.

A drag car? Say it isn't so! Lookin' good Joe. How's the Z28 coming?
Are you looking to run it at HMP?

Z28 is still in the loooong restoration process. I’m excited about getting it back.

I dunno what I’m gonna do with the red car. I’m definitely gonna roll the streets with it. Stupid thing requires 110 octane and I don’t even care lol. I’m just gonna have fun with it and hopefully piss off some environmentalists.

I haven’t built a drag car in decades, I just have street cars now. The GT500 has been tuned to 805hp, the GT40 is 1966 tech and is a 450hp 200mph car, and the Cobra is 625hp in a small package.

That would be my 03 C5 Corvette. No where near stock mechanically. No idea on what times it will pull, but it's significantly faster than my C4 Corvette and it does low 12s. I should take it to a dyno and see what it puts down. When all the mods were done it was dyno'd for the tune, but that paperwork didn't come with the car.  I would have liked to do the mods myself, but with everything (full engine build, tune, 4.11 gears, full stainless exhaust, brakes) done to this car it would have been a fortune and taken me forever to have enough time to do it. In my opinion it's just plain fast for any car, not just a 20 year old one. I should also take it to the track to see what it will do, but it will definitely need tires with better grip.

I loved my experiences with both.

Overall, I would have to say I preferred the more low end torque and drive ability of the Challenger over the higher RPM HP of the Mustang for a daily driver.  The Mustang just seems a lot less responsive until you get

If I was going to a road course/track everyday it would be the Mustang.

For this particular exercise I'm referring to straight-line acceleration.

Mine was a '96 Z28. Went high 11's at around 120.

Laughable nowadays but respectable 20yrs ago for a DD.

Bought a 95 Z28 new in 95.  Ordered  it with body color mirrors/roof, z rated gatorbacks, and 6-spd.  Had Hennessey add some goodies and it was quick for the time but my brother's carb'd NA 68 Camaro with a well built 355 ci kicked my ass all over the place .  The Z28 had so much flex that I thought the dashboard would come loose during hard launches.  Guessing Op's had frame connectors with that much juice.

2012 Infiniti G37xS coupe with a bunch of mods and a tune, but still N/A.  Fastest straight line I did was 158 mph, twice on the same stretch, each time with a witness riding with me.  I'd have to measure the distance but it wasn't any 1/4 mile, probably closer to 1-1.5 miles

Looking at GTR R35s now.

My 1990 Ford Escort LX would get up to about 95 mph if you gave it a few minutes.  The speedometer only went to 80 mph, but my friend was timing us by the mile markers.
