My little Predator just ran for over 16 hours on a single tank of gas, in eco-mode, only supplying about 500 watts, to fountains and shed lights...It ran out of fuel 4 minutes ago...
Kind of impressive.... |

It looks like the Honda has a 20A breaker for each plug of the duplex which should allow for the full 2500 rated watts through the duplex. Am I right about this, or am I missing something? View Quote The champion will be limited to 20 amps through the duplex receptacle. You could also make/buy a cord that adapts from the 30 amp RV cord to a pair of duplex receptacles each with a 20 amp resettable breaker for the champion to get the full output. As far as I can tell the digital champion is not an inverter that throttles back based upon load, but a generator with low THD for sensitive electronics. |

Well about another 10 hrs or so on the HF genny. Running strong no issues at all. Been running 93 with no ethanol fuel, seems to start up and run even better (if thats possible) with the 93.
I'll likely put another 20hrs on it this weekend and report back. I'm going to edit the thread title as this is had TON of good info about these budget units and "generator load outs". |

First four hours of break in was on some 6 month old pre-mix that I wanted to get rid of . It ran fine on the pre-mix. The last 16 hours was run on Chevron Premium. Still rain great. |

A-iPower 2000 watt inverter, 1600 running watts, Yamaha engine, $499 4. HF 2000 watt inverter, 1600 running watts, back ordered, $399 with coupon You may ask why that model Honda is being compared to the suitcase inverters. My criteria is an inverter generator that is light enough to pick up and throw in my truck by myself. Jumping up to the higher wattage inverters from the other brands carries a weight penalty that knocks them out of consideration. The Honda, being an open frame inverter, remains light enough to pick up easily. Plus, being the same price as Honda's own 2000 watt, makes it seem like a much better value. They have 19 in stock now...:-) Going to break that one in to day. This store also had (2) the parallel kits in stock. The parallel kits are also on national back order. Off topic but they also had a tool in stock that was on national back order too...this was my favorite purchase by far...this thing kicks ass and a $20 off coupon worked on it... Attached File |

My guess is that they don't want to call it an inverter generator for fear of the price/value comparison hurting sales of their normal inverter generators (i.e. this is 3500 running watts at only $100 more than their 1700 running watt inverter). They want it in its own category so customers make the distinction between the two (you are paying a huge premium for a quieter design). |

Ok, I cancelled my online back order yesterday. Went to our local store and there were 5 on the shelf. I picked one up using the coupon code posted earlier. $420-something after tax. They had the noise and smoke generators too. Restock truck filled them up pretty good on Monday.

If I get one of the 2000 watt models, it is going to be the Champion. Excellent customer service reputation, 3 year warranty, 1700 (vs 1600) running watts for less than $100 more than the HF makes it a better deal IMO.
I'm still leaning towards a more powerful one, but I can't do an interlock (no extra breakers) and my wife doesn't want me to do a suicide cord. Since I'm stuck with using extension cords, I'm not sure that a larger one will provide much of a benefit. Of coarse I was talking to one of my neighbors last night, and he showed me his 15 year old Honda 2500 generator. He says that he fires it up once a year and it starts on the first pull and purs like a kitten. He ran 2 refrigerators, a toaster, coffee maker, chargers and box fan on it last week during Irma. I kind of took it as a sign to go buy the Honda... |

I purchased my Pred2000 on 13th thanks to the OP. After hearing all the backorder rumors and not getting any emails from HF, I expected to be one of the "back to the drawing board" group. To my surprise my long-lost Pred2000 was delivered today! I had to run out and get a qt of oil (synth) to break it in tonight.
IMO it looks well put together inside the panels, which are secured with screws on each side (3 per panel, 2 panels), but the plastic is not the typical stuff you're accustomed to in the gun industry. Kinda soft plastic and the entire gen is basically covered in plastic. Nature of the beast. After spending way too much time surfing for a potential replacement, its nice to have a fuel tank gauge, breakers, and option of parallel attachment on the Pred2000. BUT, this design is missing a pet cock which can be a big deal and def a convenience when dealing with carburetors and lengthy storage times. Happy with it, regardless. |

This little Pred2000 is a stud...I am breaking in my second Pred2000.
I had a light load of some LED lights on it in Eco-mode. It has about 4 hours on it and it is running on its second oil change... I am running a good 50ft extension cord out to the backyard. I am cutting some 1/2" OSB using my 15A Makita 7 1/4" circular saw. It was running on Eco-mode. I cut about 8 sheets to put inside walls on an outside 10x16 storage shed. The saw was slightly slow to start until the throttle raised the RPM of the generator. After the genny spun up, the saw cut like normal. It says on top of the generator not to exceed 13Amps. It worked and the generator did not trip... Do not really know what this means... |

Went into my closest HF in Debary, FL today looking for the 3500.
No dice, however, they did have (2) of the Pred2000's left in stock which I passed on. Was able to take home some more 5gal gas cans - which have been more scarce than unicorns around here since 5 days before Irma. Sidenote: I never really considered an inventor gen until this thread. However, I have a 4000 Sportsman dual-fuel (gas and propane) I picked up last Black Friday for $350 from HD that I was pleasantly surprised with during our 3 days without power from Irma. Was really thinking about buying another one (Walmart has them online for $299 backordered right now) - but I think I'm just gonna get a Pred3500 if I can find one. |
