Zweigles are the only good thing to come out of New York.

But since they're next to impossible to get in Florida, a good beef frank will do.
Topped with chili, ketchup, slaw, onions, with red onion sauce an option. Heartburn is pretty much a guarantee.

I rarely eat hot dogs, but I love them when camping.

Toast a bun on the fire... cook a hotdog until it's browned... squirt a little mustard on it... heaven

Coke out of the cooler makes life complete.

ETA: Dammit, I wanna go camping now

ETA2: The hotdog in its purest form (for me) is the above.

However, I don't mind putting on some cheese and relish. Mayo is acceptable too.

Chili and cheese is also fine.

But I like the simpler things

A Flint Coney Dog
Detroit Coney Dog
Just a plain ol' dog with a bit of yellow mustard.

The dog must be a Koegel Vienna.

I would agree with that for their most commonly found Chicken hot dogs.
The Beef are a different animal, and tasty, though more difficult to find for some reason.

Hot dogs are great! Love them many different ways, and there’s some mighty fine looking dogs in this thread, from plain to the kitchen sink variety.

Having said that..... how the hell can some of you eat them all burnt to shit, with big ole black crunchy scabs on them!?
My granddad ate the hell out of those things and would always say the burnt parts “were good for your blood.” Fast forward 25 years and my current wife was cooking dogs and cooked a couple of them till they had big black marks on them till they split open and “zig zagged “ on the bun. I just looked at her in disgust and asked how she could eat that mess and she replied “it’s good for your blood.” must be some kinda German thing that I didn’t inherit.

Chicos dog, they are alright

Juarez style dog back in the old days before they started slathering them with crema and other condiments

My personal favorite though is a Nathan's natural case link with Gulden's mustard and Stagg Silverado Chile (with beans of course) I haven't been able to find the natural cased dogs locally for a couple of years though.

I actually get pissed when I see a hot dog with ketchup or cheese. Goddammit.

Leo's Coney Island in Michigan. Best coney's ever.

Otherwise, a hot dog should have mustard and maybe a little chopped onion.

Venison hotdogs are awesome.

Costco Polish dogs steamed.
Bun that will fit the whole wiener helps, steam it for 20 seconds.

Paint the open bun with peanut butter, then put a layer of sweet green relish on top of that.
Place wiener on top of that then zig-zag a liberal amount of Sriracha sauce across the works.

Garnish with a little cilantro if you wish, but it's up to you.

Thank me later, many have !

NJ had great hot dog places, The hot Grill, Falls View, Johnny and Angies. You could get your dog any way you wanted.
Deep fried with meat sauce ( not quiet a chili) mustard and chopped onions.

Also one of my favorites was the Italian hod dog at some pizza places. 1/2 hogie roll two deep fried hot dogs, potatoes,  fried peppers and onions, mustard

Ok. I just added mayo to the list. If I see you put ketchup, cheese, or mayo on a hot dog, I will fight you.

If you put ketchup on your eggs I will burn your house down and make your family homeless.

Finally, someone mentioned the Italian hot dog!
But it shouldn't be on a sub roll.....has to be on pizza bread.

NJ sucks, but we do hot dogs right!
