Not in your choices, but for me it would be an ocelot. I would have said a leopard, but I couldn't afford to feed it.

Grizzly, my spirit animal.

Tiger would be No2, because tigers love pepper.

Guy who lived near my parents had a pet cougar in a tiny rental house on a 50'x100' unfenced lot. We never saw it or heard it, but somebody switched and it got hauled away.

I read somewhere yesterday that a tiger has a tongue like a bastard file. Might put a damper on snuggles.

I'm going with river otter. They're incredibly playful, easily feed themselves and are kind of beautiful in the wild.

Would anyone here be brave enough to rub a tiger or cougar's belly?

This exactly.

My great grandma had a pet crow. It would follow her, sit on her shoulder, eat from her hand, my grandpa told me. He was a boy at the time so this would be in the '20s.

He can always go for the mermaid's sister, whose bottom part was a girl

Cougar was my first thought, until I remembered that cats are assholes.

I imagine having a 150lb cougar pouncing on your foot because it moved under a blanket would certainly be interesting

Yep. In a survival situation it would be a good hunting partner to boot.

Could be trained to use a litter box. More snuggle potential than most of the other options.

While a cougar would require a lot of food, it would be more reasonable than the larger carnivores. I guess you could fatten the grizz on junk like pancakes though.

Asian elephants have been domesticated for a few thousand years and long before Golden Retrievers even existed

I’ve worked with every animal on the list except for elephants and goldens for that matter

Everyone of them is capable of killing you. The bear and alligator are probably the least likely to snap.

Cats are dicks and big cats can be big dicks. There are instinctual behaviors that make them extremely dangerous if you fuck up. Cougars and lions are more chilled out than tigrrs, leopards and jaguars though

Chimpanzee are intelligent and not bad until about they reach the age of 10. Then they can get fucking evil. I worked at a facility that cared for “retired” chimps, gorillas, etc.  Most were stable but there were a few that could absolutely not be trusted

BUT. Perfect world with the animal being docile and obedient 100% of the time I’d go with the chimpanzee. I raised one at the facility. Saw him years later and he remembered me. I know what they turn into or else I’d have a bunch of them

Tried a cougar for a few years, you really can't domesticate her.  The training is a blast, but it usually never works out.

If it's as tame as Golden Retriever it would be awesome.

Get him as a baby when you are 25 or 30 and you will have a pal for 40 years or more.

I've worked with every animal on that list except for the grizzly bear...

Cougars and tigers are both awesome, but I'd go with the cougar because they are cheaper to feed.

Feeding big cats is expensive.
