Getting F1 TV has been completely worth it for me. I can watch practices, qualifying, and races on my schedule plus the archive has a huge amount of footage from past races all the way back to 1970. It's well worth $85/yr to me.

Saying he finished last year 2nd in points doesn’t really tell the whole story, anyone on the grid would have finished 2nd in points in that car. Max scored double the points Checo did and could have won both championship on his own. Checo is terrible and has been getting the absolute least out of the best car on the grid since joining the team. The RB has been such a superior car it hasn’t come back to bite RB yet but that day seems near.

I get the idea behind signing Checo to placate the Max and Marco faction and add some stability to a tumultuous time in the team but it’s going to screw then out of a constructors championship if they don’t pivot.

If Piastri hadn’t blown his qualifying lap he would have been on the podium closing the gap to RB. Ferrari shot themselves in the foot in Canada(and will probably do it again at least a couple more times) but they are still only 60pts behind.

They have Redbull’s home race in Austria and the Milton Keynes teams home race at Silverstone up the next two weeks. I think if Checo can’t find a way to stop having such embarrassing performances and find his way on the podium at least once his shiny new contract is going in the shredder.

I’m not a Checo fan, but after looking at the numbers it isn’t exactly dire for the constructors at this point.

Crazy stat. If you take everyone’s average finishing points over the last four races (in which Checo’s average points were 2 per race) and apply them to the rest of the season, Red Bull still wins the constructors. That’s with Max doing Max things (avg 20 points per race) and Checo only collecting 28 points for the rest of the season.

Nothing is perfectly rigid, there will always be some flexibility in any structure. The beams on a bridge will deflect some from you driving over it.  So the FIA specs a maximum deflection for a specified load.  The trick is to comply with this and still have the wing lose down force and drag at high speed.

I believe the problem with Checo is the field caught up.

RB doesnt field the best car in the track anymore, given track to track another other top team can take it.

It just shows you how good MAX is that as a driver he is still leaps and bounds ahead of others even with "superior" cars.

That's insane. Max is simply on another level. I know he had earned the nickname "Crashstappen" early on in his career,
but the last few seasons he has been laser focused. Absolute precision in every apex, every braking zone. Love him or not,
we are getting to witness one of the greatest drivers in F1 ever, in real time.

**eta: I think that made the difference yesterday. Max's absolute precise driving vs. Lando maybe just making a small
mistake here or there. Just small things that interrupted his flow or resulted in inconsistent laps. To beat Max, he (or anyone
else) is going to need to drive to Max's level of precision and consistency.

Alpine cars have improved a great deal and I believe they are going away from Renault for PP. With a better engine they could be  .
Put the Haas/Ferrari  PP in the Alpine aero and you could be there.


Right now Carlos is driving for himself. The team fired him for a DEI hire. FLH.

Is it the car? Max said look at the gap between him and Checo. The car is not the fastest on the grid. He just gets 110% out of it.

Across the board I think the Red Bull is still the best car on the grid. I also think Max is the best driver out there but even he’s not talented enough(nobody is)  to consistently be at the front of the pack with a mid field car. Checo is just that bad.

Interesting, I hadn’t seen that. I still think there is no chance a French team will be using a German, British, or Italian engine in their car, too much pride.   Maybe Flavio and Ryan Reynolds can pool their money from cheating casinos and cheap cellphones to buy the team.


This is probably the first step in prepping the team to be sold. The team (Enstone) would be much more marketable with a customer PU deal already done.

ETA: I’d even go so far to speculate that Flavio might have been brought in to operate as an intermediary between Renault and a potential buyer with a mandate to secure a PU provider, etc. If that is the case, the buyer is probably either Korean or Chinese.

They build the car to be as fast as possible in a vacuum, then they ad the driver and start making compromises, the driver who can better adapt their style to the car in its fastest form and demand the fewest compromises will be quicker. Sure certain drivers mesh with certain cars better than others but the thought Max is the only one who could be successful in the current RB isn’t true. No other team has a car that only suits one driver to the extent Max is dominant over Perez.

But the first thing you see is the pole sitter coming over to the inside, and not just to cut someone off, but to get to ‘the inside’.

Can post an example? I’m not sure I’ve seen someone leave the racing line if they aren’t trying to cover off an inside move.

Edit - They will also move over to discourage a turn one, lap one dive bomb.

Lando got an ok start, Max got a better start. Lando moved over to hopefully get the inside line going into the corner.

If the pole sitter had a choice of where P1 lined up at the start of the race, it would almost always be on the racing line.

If I recall, there are a few tracks where pole is actually on the dirty side of the track.
(I can't think of an example off hand, but I'll try to update if I do.)
P2 can actually be a benefit in those cases.

Being on the "clean racing line" is mostly a benefit during the first initial phase of the launch.
Once they're into second or third gear, it's much less of an issue. At that point, they want to defend against the
car behind.

Back when everything was glossy, it was a lighter blue. Pantone 655C.
