I'm kind of partial to listening to some of the vintage GT40's and others going through that section. Don't get me wrong, the V-12 and V-10 F1 cars sound glorious, but that deeper rumble of the 427ci GT40 is special.

So….”this is it” when it comes to major development for the next two years.

Jan 1st of next year is the first day teams can apply CFD and WT time to the new 2026 cars.

I puckered up a bit at 2:20.  I had an experience similar to that before.  You think doing the nice thing and getting out of the way is the nice thing to do, but holding your line is way better for the overtaking car

Probably because V-Carb has a serious shot at P5 or higher in the championship given they're basically using the RB19.

Of course, if I'm not mistaken this year's car is the first that has been completely developed using their new wind tunnel. It came online sometime last season so their car last year didn't use it but the upgrades the brought later in the year were designed on it.

Yes, I'm fairly certain they (F1tv) broadcast everything.
The commentators might be the "B-Team" and just yap about nothing, but they do broadcast it.

My pants just got tight in the groinal region.

I used to be a pretty big fan of BMW - but ever since the Chris Bangle era ended, it's like they completely lost their way!
The BMW M1. The M3 GTR and years of great M3 cars until the F-chassis series. The V10 for the McLaren F1. The V10s in the M5/M6. The 850CSi. Hell even the BMW V12 LMR - LMP!

Today, esshhhh. They're lackluster on the track. They're not involved in F1. Their road cars seem to have left a lot of BMW traits in the past to chase -- well who the hell knows? The styling department that last 8 years, oh dear god, it's like they all wake up and do a collective bump of smack and chase it with a dipper, then head to the clay modeling room to whip up their next WTF styling theory.

The motors were largely trash too - the only thing saving them right now are the wonderful B58 and its 4 cylinder counterpart. I wish they would re-release the i8, drop the hybrid power train and slap a B58 or even the four banger in the bank and let it twist.

The F1 wind tunnels models are limited to a certain scale right?  Like 70% ?  I thought I saw one youtube video from RB talking about their testing.

Is wind tunnel limited on wind speed?  I wonder if teams can run high speeds to offset the smaller car model.  Maybe run 300mph or something.  Air is a compressible fluid.

I found this type of thinking helpful in FEA models, stressing a part to 1,000% of spec sort of thing, to reveal possible issues.

60% scale I think is the max allowable right now.  You likely could run faster to 'stress' the design, but they are also limited to 180kph speed.

My only take thus far is Alpine has got a lot of work. Not looking good.  Tiers looks pretty unchqnged: [RB, McLaren, Ferrari], [AM, Merc, maybe RB2 now], [AR/Strike/Strake/w/e, Williams], [Alpine, Hass]. It's early though.

It’s just the first day of testing, but the RB20 is considerably different from every other car (a gamble) and it appears that everything is working as expected. Combine that with the second plus gap and the low odds of RBR doing “glory runs” and you have everyone feeling a bit uneasy.

I haven’t confirmed, but I saw some data that showed “perfect laps” (best sectors for each team) and VCARB in second. People are going to lose their minds if that team is challenging at the front end.

If true and it plays out that way during the season, there may be allot of car engineers getting pink slips.

To have a RB19 beat this years car designs would be hilarious.

Pat Symonds, F1 chief technical officer, has stated that he believes the Mercedes front wing is technically legal but may go against the spirit of the rules since it may produce considerable "outwash" that may hinder the aero of cars following behind. Allowing cars to follow closer one was of the main objectives of the new rule package so that’s why he believes the FIA may look at the design more closely. Of course Ted Kravitz said the FIA shouldn’t look into it.
