They could also be looking at this as a short term solution to replace worn out planes or a mid to long term solution for new pilots that will be graduating flight school. Just spit ballin because as I said, it is russia. |

During the 1917 Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) took place over about 100 days and reasonable estimates of casualties seem to be about 700,000. So, the rate was about 7,000 casualties per day. During 1916, the Battle of the Somme took place over 140 days, with close to a million casualties. So, a very similar rate - about 7,000 thousand casualties per day. ... and remember, those were specific campaigns in a small part of the overall theatre, and there was lots of dying going on at the same time on other battlefields. WW1 must have been an absolutely terrifying meatgrinder. |

I guess they have enough pilots, many ejected and got rescued, some planes were destroyed on the ground, some planes made it back to base and were written off as unrepairable.

I'm honestly surprised it took this long to get sick of the Ayatollahs. Iran used to be a forward thinking, well educated place. Fricking fundies beat their chest and went at the Sunni Shia thing as soon as they had their fangs sunk in. After they finished with the Baathists, they went at their own worse than the fucking Taliban. |

Yep. Plus the current front line Russian pilots who were the best Russia had the start of the conflict have proven to be a pretty sad lot. It's one thing to fly a modernish fighter and blast some third worlders. It's another to face off against a peer. And at this point, I think after the infusions of NATO weaponry and training, Ukraine is quickly becoming (if not already) Russia's peer. |
