I read (on here) that the RPG nosecone detonator "should" survive a 3 meter drop without detonating with the safety cap removed. So a drone, even going slow may be enough. If not, I'm sure the UA modified them to work properly. |

We'd CherryMax large scab patches and splice stringers and formers and the aircraft would fly out a day later for a more complete repair. It was pretty common to see the older airliners, like MD-80s with scab patches all over the fuselage, some as large as several square feet. Some 737s had multiple scab patches around the passenger entry doors, as bandaids covering cracks. When one patch cracked, they'd put another one over it. Locally, there was a Delta ship that had a MLG trunion fail and the gear broke off. The team they sent to ferry-fix it used hammers and an anvil to shape titanium pieces for the repair. These type repairs are crude and the MRO repair will replace all of the ferry repair work. |

Solzhenitsyn talked about how the Gulag system ran on a sea of fraud as every level reported fraudulent production claims to the level above it, who in turn accepted them to pad their own impossible quotas and reported the to their superiors….all the way to the Bosses in Moscow. Soviet economic data was mostly fraudulent because Moscow was told what it wanted to hear. Putin’s decree will bring those days back, if they ever left. |

It's amazing how events in history influence each other: The USSR invades A-stan in 1979. The USA supports the Muj. to fight the Soviets. Osama Bin ladin arrives to help and becomes OBL, ends up forming Al Queda. Iraq invades Kuwait, the US moves to kick them out and stations troops in S. Arabia, getting OBL into planning 9-11, which leads to A-stan in 2001 and Iraq Part II in 2003, which influences Putin for 2008 (Georgia) and Ukraine in 2014 and 2022... View Quote Yes that is an important point. When we went into Iraq we had probably the most stringent ROEs of any modern army in hard combat. Russia passed a decree that makes it legal to for their deployed forces commit atrocities. Another contrast is we spent trillions “helping” ME/SWA countries who hate us with our blood and treasure. Ukraine is a refreshing opportunity to help a people who like us, are grateful, and are not asking for us to bleed for them. And they are defeating our bogey man at the same time. |

Fuck Nato! Fuck Ukraine! Fuck Russia! I don't think that would help Oksana much, but, frankly...I'd expect it to happen. I'm getting very discouraged with the "conservatives" in my neck of the woods. Several people I know personally do nothing but regurgitate Russian talking points on social media. I've cut quite a few people out of my life based on it. Talking to them, trying to reason with them, offering up reasonable arguments...none of it leads anywhere. I've gotten pretty tired of it, on top of my health issues and a variety of other life things going on. Instead, I think I'll just make an effort to be positive where I can, make sure to let people like Oksana know that some of us aren't fucking retarded, and keep writing my representatives to hopefully make sure aid continues to flow. Contribute what I can. I swear to all the gods anyone believes in, I literally had a conversation today where someone made the remark that Ukraine used to be part of Russia so they deserved to have it back and we shouldn't interfere. When I argued contrary to that, the rebuttal was "So, you'd support Texas seceding from the Union then?" I was like...holy fuck. My responses were "Ah, so you'd have supported Britain in 1812, and don't tell me for one fucking second that you wouldn't pee yourself with excitement if California broke away and took it's Electoral College votes with it." Silence. Tomorrow, that same person will start parroting more anti-Ukraine propaganda. It's a losing battle against smooth-brained people on the left-half of the bell curve, and I'm rapidly lacking the energy to fight it. What you said seems like an extremely likely scenario. Depressingly so. Common sense stuff we can and should be sending are things like the stocks of cluster munitions we still have sitting around earmarked for eventual destruction. Our Army has been sized, designed and equipped mainly to counter Russian incursion for the last 70 years. What better opportunity to apply it without risking one American life? Plus, Ukraine is a great opportunity to get rid of all our old stocks of weapons we have retired or planned to retire soon. China is most a Russia psyop red herring. The equipment and forces are almost non-intersecting. Ukraine needs armor, artillery, shells, ground transport. Taiwan needs us to secure the seas and assist with the skies. We have to stop China BEFORE the touch land. That means missiles, ships and aircraft. The overlap would be air defense, missiles, fighters, Bombers, etc. but Ukraine would benefit from older fighters like F16. Do the critical overlap that needs careful management is AD and various missile systems. Fundamentally if we let Ukraine drag out years then we are ramping up the risks for Taiwan. Rather than ranting AGAINST funding Ukraine a truly concerned person should rant on going bigger and faster on Ukraine to end it quickly so we can pivot to Taiwan. |
