WWI had massive ammo expenditures, but the big big issues were bigger then that, and while ammo expenditure is a problem, is it the biggest problem? Arguably not.

Id say the big issue is a transparent battlefield with universal satellite imagery and cheap precision anyone can sell or donate.  I'm not sure, at all, that any Brigade or higher HQ will survive very long in the next fight.  Expeditionary logistics? Probably not.

So, in a way, it's 1906, and anyone who wants to fight the big one in a few years should understand there are a dozen new variables out there and guessing the combination of how they turn out is highly unlikely.  Talking about a conventional war with a peer competitor should sound and smell like a bunch of 1950s leaders talking about duck and cover and winning a nuclear exchange.

I realize the Taiwan straits is the situation it is, but right now, recognize anything and everything but proxy wars and insurgencies is a multi variable crapshoot.

There IS both opportunity and risk associated with this approach.  The opportunity is that we get to accelerate fielding of improved systems (the M113 replacement, STINGER upgrade/replacement, next-gen PATRIOT, HIMARS, GMLRS, etc), Decrease storage/disposal costs of older systems (mid-range Blocs of the F16, older lots of JAVELIN, AT-4, PATRIOT, etc).  Build international relationships (and clients), etc.  The risks, naturally, is that if China and the Norks (or both) get froggy in the near-term, we may well get caught short. However, the other side of this coin is that the expenditure of stuff like PAC3 CRI and 1st Gen HIMARS is a forcing function to replenish our stuff expeditiously so DoD isn't spending it's money funding Tranny Rights and Renaming stuff because of "feels".  Otherwise, we could find ourselves fighting the next war with stockpiled PAC-3 CRI with limited upper-tier integration capabilities against a near-intercontinental Ballistic Missile Threat and launching deep-strikes against modern air defenses with 1st Gen HIMARS that have the radar cross section of a station wagon while swatting at low-observable drones and cruise missiles with 30 year old STINGERS.  However, keep in mind that R0N and others are not wrong, and we risk potentially having our ass bare during the period while production catches up with stockage and requirements, and this does need to be taken into account, because TANSTAAFL.

This is where all of that "wasted" time fighting insurgencies will pay off, if we bring the lessons learned forward.  The next war will not have a defined front/FLOT, and everyone; Grunts, Loggies, Staff weenies, Clerks, etc, will have to function like they are in forward positions, as the enemy tactical "reach" will be tens or even hundreds of miles from the main battle.  Comms, ADA and EW assets will be critical, and resupply and rear staging will become extremely complex.

And the fact that F-russia is using Lewisite in explosive artillery shells. Lewisite hasnt been used since world war 1, causing untold suffering, blindness and horrible blisters. Lewisite is a blister agent, and is prohibited from use. But again F-russia doesnt care about world norms. So blowing a nuke plant is on the level of the the third reich craziness.

At the beginning of the full scale invasion, a Russian soldier posted a video on Telegram of himself raping a toddler.  That there are sick motherfuckers is understood, why would one would post it openly like that unless he believed it was OK to do?

I would hope that, in addition to ensuring that Russia understands that this would be a mistake of epic proportions for them, we're pressuring China to dissuade them as well.

Sadly, I don't believe the western response would be anything but playing the victim card.

From my time in the military, 95% of the officers I interacted with were looking out for their own self interests far more than anything else.  Few would show any initiative or politely challenge superiors, they were all trying to get to retirement without having to make any tough decisions.   They were always writing themselves memos and inventing excuses to cover their own failures to take action.   Personal integrity simply didn't exist except in the newby Lieutenants, and most of them caved pretty quickly.   Hell, the USAF redesigned ICBM launch procedures to account for the possibility of launch officers refusing to fire their missiles when given legitimate launch orders.

Well said and on point. The West has assumed total air dominance and never considered an alternative. Now they can either give ADA till it hurts or supply them a few older jets that are the necessary alternative. Ukraine is paying in lives for both the bad planning then and the dithering now. All (most) of this would be moot if we gave them some air power.

Most of the videos I have seen seem to have been started after the intital blast judging by the smoke and are showing a massive secondary explosion with all sorts of pops and bangs of smaller things going off.

Hoping some footage of the area will be released tomorrow.

If RuS does somehting dumb with ZPP, I would hope that would arouse a significant and swift response from NATO.

As far as anyone is concerned, it should be considered a nuclear attack, which it is, and should not be up for debate.

Why is Russia so fucking stupid. There is no place for these rogue countries in the global sphere. That includes China, Iran, and every other destabilizing force on the planet.

It's time for a purge.
