With the right types of WO, this truly is the right answer

I’ve just started getting back to they gym after doing garage workouts all during Covid then taking about 9m off.  Strength is going back up but overall fitness isn’t the same as with the garage WOs.

Below is a WO I did last week with a yoga mat and using a couple 1g water jugs as weights:

12 burpees to start/finish, and between each
exercise
below:

Start w/12 burpees

-50 Squats
-50 Wide Dead Lifts
-50 side lunges -25 side
-50 bicycles
-50 SuperMan
-50 squat jumps
-50 leg lifts
-50 curtsy lunges 25/25
-50 jumping jacks
-50 plank knee touches
-50 push ups
-50 squat pulses
-50 Russia. Twist
-50 bent row
-50 vups

Finish w/12 burpees

It kicked my tail and I was huffing/puffing the whole time.  Still sore today

*I did use a barbell for the deadlifts/bent rows

If you put this kind of effort into a good weight training program you would probably be happier with the results.

Yep. That’s just a bunch of fatigue with minimal stimulus.

I have a Rogue Echo airbike, Concept 2 rower, ski erg and their bike erg. And a treadmill.

Of all of them, I firmly believe the Rogue Echo airbike is the best overall for a complete workout. There is a reason it's called the Devils bike.

They are great as a punishment when practicing a sport, but other than just getting good at burpees they don't do much for you.

Eons ago I was recovering from plantar fasciitis surgery and was watching late night TV when this infomercial appeared:

JACKRACK - Complete 30 minute infomercial

I thought "why not" and bought one.  I started doing this exercise routine, 3x week:

Beat the living shit out of me every time!  Reduced me to a heaving puddle of sweat. That, along with a decent diet, really put me into great overall condition.

Two+ years ago I moved into an RV and threw the thing away.  Now that I have settled into a house environment again I went looking to buy a replacement.  Not surprisingly the original website is long gone, but a sustained Google search I discovered a source:

https://www.worldfitnessus.com/platinum-pro-jack-rack-lower-body/

Link left cold.

I ordered one and received a prompt notification.  I will update the thread.  EDIT:  $98 delivered

Far be it from me to stop anyone from improving themselves......but couldn't you do the same thing with two stools and 2x4?

Since you didn't specify a budget...

ARX: https://www.arxfit.com/

Vasper: https://vasper.com/

I think each one is $40,000 ish.

But if that's not your budget, then adjustable dumbbells plus something to hang from plus bodyweight stuff should keep you busy for a while.

You can probably improvise, but I don't know about stability and flexibility.  For $98 delivered this thing really helps you harness your bodyweight.

If you've got the room a squat rack, if not a Bowflex and select tech dumbbells. For cardio I'd get a Max trainer or bike. I have both and prefer the Max trainer for quick workouts and the bike for longer workouts. The I-fit membership is $20 a month and is a lot of fun riding different trails while someone pushes you.

Plus great stress relief.

I'm not even an angry person, but it just feels good to start the morning hitting things once or twice a week.

This is good advice.

I’d say start with the C2 if you can commit to regular cardio add strength.

These machines seem to take up a lot of space and they tend to be kinda expensive. I'm not an arf millionaire so I don't have a 20,000 Sq ft home. Plus I don't have much time to get to a gym. At least with any consistency. It's much more convenient to work out at home. I have one of those folding workout benches off Amazon. It was like $100. It goes from 90 degree sitting to laying flat and about 4 positions in between for incline stuff. I have dumbbells sets in 50lb, 40, 30 and 20. I can do Flys laying flat, coffin presses, narrow/wide bench press. I can incline the back and lay prone and work my rear delts, traps and back. I sit it straight up and do shoulder presses. I can work arms, delts, chest and back effectively for about $300 worth of equipment. And I can fold it up and store it in my closet. Only thing it doesn't do is legs.

I recently picked up a barely used bowflex PR3000 for the ol' ball-n-chain.  A buddy got it back when everybody was buying exercise crap during the start of the rona lockdowns.  He used it about 5x, then it turned into a laundry rack.

I downloaded the manual and its got a boatload of exercises it shows you how to do, including some of what's been mentioned like squats.  I printed the book out and highlited all the exercises that say they target your Gluteus Maximus so the wife knows which ones to focus on.

Cardio and Lifting should require at least two different machines IMHO

If you're new to lifting I'd say get a bowflex

If you're looking to build a home gym then I'd start with a rack and go from there
