If they end up causing a javilin to be expended I suspect the Russins will chalk it up to a win.

There's a lot of talk about 155 and Stinger production,  what's the deal with Javi production?  Or are they keeping that info close to the vest UNlike damn near everything else?

Yeah, Russia is out of tanks, they're out of missiles, they're out of artillery, they can't make drones because they can't get components, the sanctions have crippled their economy, most of their army has been killed, Ukraine's Spring offensive is going to take Crimea, and the revolt will depose Putin. If they are being used to train tankers and mechanics as well as perform checkpoint security adn convoy escort, that could free up new tanks to be used ... like tanks.

Wonder if the T-55s are still the old 100mm gun or did they up them to 120mms?  Doesn't matter if they have a better gun, I'd imagine they still have shit fire control and would be outgunned at range by western tanks/drones.

Does the modern Russian army use tanks as smash and penetrate in homogenous corps (Soviet era doctrine), or do they use them as infantry support in mixed units?  Think the T55 would be decent in the latter role, provided the infantry can keep ATGMs off them.  The tank in your pocket is better than the artillery you left at home, lol.  I can't see the Russians coordinating that well though.

More than likely the 100mm guns.....they still have plenty of that type of ammo

They are good enough for infantry support, better than the other side having little to no infantry support. Most tanks never see tank to tank battles anymore. German tanks were better than Russian tanks during ww2. But were they 100-1 better? I'm guessing that's the idea here.

It's just proof of the reality that this war has turned into a WWI style attrition grind. Lots of people will die and neither side will likely be able to beat the other... Oh, Russia, being bigger, could wear down Ukraine eventually even with Western aid. But it's going to cost them pretty much everything they have. If Russia does win, in the future people will use the term "Putinic victory" to mean a more extreme version of a Pyrrhic victory.

No.  Cossacks had Crimea and the area around it before Catherine the Great took it for Russia (not U-Crane).  Historically the area in dispute belong to Russia after the Cossacks lost it.  It was only given to U-Crane by Kruschev while the population was predominantly Russian.

Oh well, so long as we don't become further involved and get noo-clar war.

Except he is not wrong. How many article have we read last year that said Russia was out of ammo, out of men and out of time. I remember when there was a article claiming the Wagner PMC was out of ammo so they used shovels.

It’s not so much a matter of out of as replacements are sub optimal. The professional troops are killed so volunteers and then conscripts replace them. The equipment gets older, the shells less reliable. You can continue a long time under such circumstances.

Why not? It’s not like these are involved in massive Kursk tank-on-tank battles. These things are shelling positions like a mobile artillery platform and going against trenches, buildings, and APCs.

I don’t believe the media and think that things aren’t as positive for Ukraine as we are hearing. The anti-tank missiles kill their newer tanks just as easily as the older ones…they probably have tons of parts for the older ones and I’m sure they are easier to train on. They probably have millions of unused rounds for them as well. Pull back your newer tech and let these things be out there for a few weeks and get popped rather than your good stuff.

Given their current scenerio, it’s a win-win.

I understand that both sides are using their old tanks as short ranged artillery most of the time.

Tanks suck as artillery pieces but they're probably adequate for shelling some treeline or little village while allowing your real artillery to concentrate on higher priority targets, given how thinly resources must be stretched along that 750 mile frontline
