Big Army let us appropriate crates of MP5s that were unwanted, (Pakistani Ordnance) and we found out they were not the pos thought to be....we issued them out every Friday until our supply was out. Fridays in case the Iraqis had a wedding, or some other happy fire event scheduled for the weekend

Question: Does the US military maintain SN records of rifles once they go off to war?
Would it be possible, at least hypothetically, to take one of those M16s and run the SN against some database and figure out who it was last issued to and when (maybe even where) it went missing? |

Hadjified Lee Enfield   Nice old PPSh 41, this one was a lot of fun.   Iranian G3  Pakistani MG3  Hadjified Rasheed  Thompson, never got to fire this one.    Post raid haul.  Found all these in an old warehouse on the east side of Camp Taji.         |
