So I finished Goblin Slayer (8/10) and started watching Sword Art Online: Alicization. All I can think is, "Why would you do that again, you fucking idiot???!!!"

Is it worth continuing?

Honestly probably not. But I've been watching it still. Most recent arc is somewhat interesting. Which is funny because one certain character is in the background.

There's something about the Beretta. I've always loved the look. But funny enough after handling army m9's I'm less of a fan.

They're still pretty to me though.

I binged Brynhildr in the Darkness over the past couple of days.  It's from Lynn Okamoto (creator of Elfen Lied), so there's a strong Elfen Lied feel to it.  It's a bit reminiscent of Falling Skies too.  Some of it's a bit of a silly (although entertaining) harem show also.  I enjoyed watching it overall.

Ever notice how for the past, oh, say, seven years or so?

That male protagonist have gotten cuter and more adorable?

Like take a look at good old chobits, what's his face.

But now? Subaru kun? Kirito? Yato? Plenty of others? Adorable, I mean I'm not complaining or anything of course, I just thought it was interesting.

The only typical recent male protagonist I can think of at least off the top of my head is nafumi from Shield hero that big Pony and I are watching right now.

I just wonder why the trend is like that now exactly, Japan is a very different place from here that's for certain they don't have nearly as much sjw nonsense.

Well guys they're do have a history of being fairly frilly looking in their younger years since the 1980s, I don't know, society's taste do change over time. "Shrug"

If my memory isn't off, I made a post shortly after the 3rd season of Index premiered, pointing out that Kamijo Toma had gotten shorter.  Instead of the taller, kinda lanky looking build, he was now closer to Misaka Mikoto's height.  Index herself also seemed a little taller.

If you can find enough of the early SAO artwork, Kirito's look evolved some by the time the anime was made, and he wasn't the only character that got a bit of a makeover.

Changing styles/tastes, or just newer people drawing them with their own artistic style showing it's influence?  I dunno.

Speaking as a die hard SAO fanboy, the last 5 or 6 episodes of the first Alicization arc weren't all that good, and I found myself not really looking forward to seeing them pop up. Haven't watched the latest arc yet.

Gun gale online is the best SAO arc to date.
It was good, but I'm not sure it was best.

Point of fact, I liked the first several episodes of Alicization. It shows Kirito as not being all powerful IRL among other things. It was only the last several where the main characters acted nonsensically that had me shaking my head.

Definitely worth checking out. Start with the 'movie timeline': Patlabor: The Early Days OVAs (on youtube now free in HD), Patlabor: The Movie, and Patlabor 2.

Far better and more interesting than Gundam.

I watched the first season of SOA.  It was okay, but Kirito's Marty Stu-ness got pretty annoying so I didn't watch anymore.

I heard something about how he wasn't in a new season or a new movie or something.  What's the deal with that?

It's the vegetable thing. But it's moving too fast in too many places and to slow in others to get me excited. Some of the impactful scenes like the bad guy's childhood fall flat. And the aftermath of that flashback and related story literally kills the two most interesting characters on the opposing side.

At this point the season is going to blunder on until Kirito recovers and curb stomps the baddies. Which is going to feel cheap.

I know I've brought it up probably dozens of pages ago in this thread.  But check out Sword Art Online Abridged on youtube.  Yes, a lot of things in the series get joked on like any other "abridged" series.  But the "abridged" version of Kirito (and Asuna) are actually better than the "real" versions and imho show better character development over the Aincrad arc.

Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail.
Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri. (Both seasons, in order)
Girls und Panzer.
Gunslinger Girl (Season 1). I had a big part in scanlating the manga for this series.
Made in Abyss.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. (Watch before Rebellion)
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: A Rebellion Story.
Noir.

ETA: I will make special mention of High School of the Dead. Just be certain to not be watching among polite company.

After getting cast aside by his employer, then getting some rough treatment from Revvy, Rock basically adopts a "I'd rather be killed than put up with people's bullshit" attitude.

The Rock/Revyy dynamic is really interesting also.

I think the point of his overpowered state is he is the ultimate gamer. They the first season of Sao they make it clear it's not that he is strong he just understands how games work. The subsequent seasons they forget to show he's taking advantage of the mechanics and somehow he is just strong.
