I didn’t really know what to expect from Luminous Witches.
Episode 1 started out with a good vibe, offering promising echoes of Tanya, but it rapidly spiraled downhill after that, to the point where I was bored silly and finally gave up on it by the 12-minute mark. I suppose that if it somehow recovers its groove in later episodes I might reconsider, but for now it’s off of my watchlist. |

(I have watched at least some episodes of Strike Witches, but it never made much of an impression on me either way.) Still, it totally lost me midway through. If it’s intended as a sequel, maybe that’s OK, I’m just not the target audience, but if it was intended to stand alone on its own two feet then for me it was ‘a miss’. |

Speaking of Arcane: I rewatched it for a third time last week and I am still picking up on things I didn’t notice the previous times. It was the most brilliantly written show I’ve seen since Breaking Bad and it has some of the best fight animation I’ve ever seen. It also put on a clinic on how to PROPERLY write strong female characters void of any wokeness.
