I recently decided to purchase a IWI Masada and mount a red dot on it, my first red dot on a 9mm. So far I am very happy with the Masada and I really like the the shake-awake feature of the Holosun. I am still working at getting comfortable with this setup.

Regarding gathinerg OEM Glock parts to complete a custom G17 slide.

I could have sworn somebody mentioned a vendor who may have complete OEM parts sets available.
Just spent several minutes clicking through recent pages with "parts" a a word search.

I'm considering building one of the Swampfox Wolverine custom slides for the G17.
https://www.swampfoxoptics.com/wolverine-slide

I could canibalize the existing G17 slide, but I'd rather not have to unless for some reason Gen 3 OEM Glock parts have become unobtainium.

Curious if anybody knows the actual availability of slide parts, or has a recommended source.

Same here. I haven’t touched the buttons on mine in a year.

Has anyone with an astigmatism compared the the RMR 06 to the 07? I know everyone's eyes are different, but I was wondering if those of us with an astigmatism generally find one provides less distortion than the other.

I have been slow to the game, but I am warming up to red dots on pistols. I have a Delta Point Pro on a Glock 45, it's really cool. I like how the dot tells you what you are doing wrong. I shot steel today with it for the first time today, and I was very pleased. Slow to start, and then my speed increased over time. I get it now. It is an ammo stash killer. You just can't stop shooting it.

Got shipping notice today for my Swampfox upper

•Getting GREEN 3moa dot
•Plain rear sight is mounted IN FRONT OF the optic (2 real good reasons for that placement – no obstruction of view of dot, and good for bashing slide to clear jam)
•Red fiber-optic front sight
•Iron sights are visible in lower-third of field of view
•Optic brightness-adjustment is manual-adjustment only – no “automatic brightness adjustment”
•Optic does NOT have to be removed from slide to replace battery
•Battery life estimated one year on medium setting
•Shake-awake on/off
•Metal guard will surround optic – guard can be violently slammed against any available rigid object to clear seized round/casing in chamber – see vid at about 8:15
----o---- Bashing video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN7X8IIJfok
•I’ll mount the optic on the Swampfox G17 slide already equipped with all cutouts for optic and both iron sights
----o---- Link for the Swampfox G17 slide https://www.swampfoxoptics.com/wolverine-slide
----o---- Swampfox slide has an open cutout on the top of the slide – which I could do without, but I guess the cutout should give me no more heartburn than the open cutout on the Beretta M9.
•I’ll cannibalize all the guts from one of my G17 slides to complete the optic-upper. I hate to gut an OEM Glock slide for parts, but complete OEM Glock parts kits are nonexistent on the 2021 market. Saw some questionable aftermarket slide-build kits. The Swampfox G17 slide comes bare-naked with no parts except for the firing pin channel liner.

What it comes down to for me is it’s easier to get a “good enough” sight picture with irons from a holster.  Even using the sights as a guide to present then transitioning to the dot was an improvement (and was the best strategy for me according to the shot timer), but it is still slower.

I have settled on an RMR for my HD pistol where I will likely come from a ready position… but I am sticking with irons for carry guns where I expect to present from a draw.

I was skeptical.

My nephew had a Hellcat that impressed me with the dot-sight (not so much the Hellcat though).

Swampfox "Liberty" green-dot sight the Swampfox "Wolverine" slide.
Got the bash-shield for the optic so I can do cool-guy tactical slide manipulations by bashing the metal bash-shield on objects in order to rack the slide.

And of course front-sight-forward master race configuration because bash-leverage, and also keeps the rear sight from playing peek-a-boo with the dot.

I cannibalized a G17 slide for the slide guts. Everything dropped right in on the Swampfox slide.
Haven't fired it yet.

The "backup" sights seemed superflous to me before I actually assembled this thing.
I'm very impressed at the front sight as a "dot finder." Find the front sight on the target, and the dot just jumps right up. Nice.

My only complaint so far is that the optic comes with a whole bunch of different size screws. You are supposed to know what size is right for the holes in your slide.
Figured Swampfox would mention somewhere in the supplied literature, or online, which one of the several screws is the right size. Two of the sizes acted like they "wanted" to go into the threads. I called Swampfox, and they answered their phone right away, and informed me that the correct screw size for the Wolverine slide is 6-32 x 0.374" Which was furnished with the optic. But also furnished a M3.5 x 0.6 - which if I'd ham-handed into the threads would have gotten me off to an unhappy start. Use the American size.

Its 4.52oz with the 16650, so does indeed help reduce muzzle rise, and then I have a 3oz brass 'Seattle Slug' by Taylor Freelance in the backstrap, which helps balance out the WML and further reduce muzzle rise. Overall a very mild shooting pistol.

I'm using the factory barrel. I've been tempted by KKM's and Barstos, but the factory barrel is already quite accurate, and I'm worried an aftermarket barrel might produce lower velocities then the 6" Glock barrel. Although if I could find a aftermarket barrel that produced higher then stock velocity (even as little as a consistent +25fps) I'd snag one, as maxing out velocity is one of the main appeals of the 17L for me.

I'll definitely report back once I've hit the range.

I really like the look of that with the longer stream light - you keep the width in line with the existing pistol profile while adding some weight up front to keep it flat shooting and getting illumination.

OEM barrel or KKM?

I need a range report!

This is a crutch, don't do it. Fishing for the dot with the front sight is not fast. Stay target focused and practice your presentation until you consistently present your gun with the dot on target. It takes some practice but its worth it to get the most out of the dot.

Never buy From a company who knowingly sold defective products (for a loooong time).

Im not even talking about thermal drift - the loss of nitrogen purge had an off the charts failure rate and significantly degraded brightness.

I'm new to red dots. Does the larger window make a big difference? For example, if the eotech turned out to be just as reliable as the RMR (and priced the same), would it be a no-brainer to choose the Eotech? Top loading battery aside.

Honestly I can't say personally because I've only ever used rmrs but sometimes it's nice to be able to see more in your window. Generally people say the bigger the field of view, the faster the sight can be.

Swampfox “Liberty” and “Justice” models are each top-loading battery. Never any need to dismount the device.

https://www.swampfoxoptics.com/liberty-justice

The threads that hold RMR devices to the slide are already flimsy enough. The notion that you will have to stress those threads by repeated cycles of dismounting in order to replace batteries should be a real concern.

Didn't see it mentioned, but I have this optic on a Strike80 Glock and I really like it.

It is super beefy like an RMR. Negative is no auto adjust feature. Top loading battery. DPP footprint. Glass it super clear and no tint like RMR. Made in China

Regarding enclosed emitters - I do think they are an improvement and likely the future, but not a game changer.

I think enclosed emitters provide:
1) Incremental protection
2) in certain environments
3) when open carried.

For CCW when the gun is covered, the perceived benefits of enclosed emitters are significantly diminished. In my experience water / rain is a non issue IMO (See RMR water tests).

Snow could be more of an issue, especially if pistol is open carried.  Of course this applies to slung/carried rifles without scope caps as the rear object (Aimpoint, LPVO, EOtech, etc) all provide a nice cup for snow to accumulate.

Still, it's extra coverage for little / no downside so nice to see progress being made.

It can happen for sure - I just don't think it's common. This, admittedly- is based on anecdotal evidence and my own tests.

I do think enclosing the emitter  an incremental improvement and nothing is 100% failsafe (even irons)
