This rifle is built around a Krieger stainless steel DCM HBAR with a 1:7.7" twist. | The PRS is great. It's amazing the difference a little bit of adjustment can make. The cheek-rest adjustment as seen in the pictures is set for that particular scope set-up, which places the scope in the same plane as standard iron sights. (the line of sight is about 2.6 inches above the bore with low rings and the GG&G sight rail).. Change the scope set-up (or just swap uppers) and you can dial in the exact number of clicks on the cheek rest to accommodate the change in scope height. |
Be sure to post your evaluation of the fluted Douglas barrel. I've been considering a fluted profile for my next build. |

How do you like the LaRue 13.2" FF as compared to the 12" models? I've been considering one of the 13.2" models for my next build. |
I like the Larue 13.2 rail. It gives a little more real estate out front with the 20 inch barrel and since I am not using a front sight post it is even better. If you are using a front sight post you will have to use the 12.0. I like the 12.0 as well but the 13.2 was just suited better for this application. |

Range Report Accuracy testing was done prior to the arrival of the Magpul PRS using an A2 stock. Five shot groups were fired from a bench at 100 yards using front and rear rests and a Leupold VARI-X III set at 25X. The best groups were obtained using Sierra 77 grain MatchKings and VihtaVuori powders. http://home.comcast.net/~gocartmozart/krieger_larue_04_black_and_white_resized.jpg Using VV N135 the best 5 shot group measured .353". A ten shot string of this load chronographed at 2638 fps with a standard deviation of 10 fps. Using VV N140 the best 5 shot group measured .394". to ARontheridge, Your IM doesn't seem to be working. To answer you question, my barrel is a Krieger 20" DCM H-BAR in stainless steel. CMMG SST Bull 16" 1 in 7 Stainless, Heavy Threaded Muzzle, the Muzzle nut doubles as a Rebar cutter if needed.... Groups better than the shooter, unfortunately since Chemo I am not as steady of hand as I used to be.... Parts are CMMG Lower receiver currently with stock trigger slightly "Tuned" I plan to switch to a Jard or JP FCG unless I can find a CMC drop in unit... Upper is all CMMG Shrouded Carrier, Bolt is standard, Forend is YHM Ultralight Mid length. Magpul rail panels, Harris Benchrest Bipod, The Mount is a generic Steel mount... in the future I plan to put some good glass on it instead of the BSA "Better Stuff Available" 4-16x40 Mil Dot. Just changed jobs and after the Doctors bills I plan to save a little bit up and get a Leupy with the same type mount as yours... Grip is a Fobus "G-27" not what I wanted but what was available at the time... Wanted the DPMS PSG1 style... but this one is quite comfy... It grouped under a dime at 100 with sorry optics prior to the BSA with the blackhills ammunition... I plan to build some rounds with a Cannelured 77gr SMK bullet Federal Small rifle primer and 24.1 Gr RL15 powder will see how it prints with that.... at 100 and on the 14th I will see how it does at 300 and 600 too...

I have a Jard non-adustable trigger and while it is an excellent trigger I think the JP is better suited to use in this type of weapon. The Jard has a very long take-up compared to the JP. The JP does require a little time setting it up, but that's the beauty of it. You can get it set just the way you want it. (have an extra disconnector on hand in case you mess it up the first time you install one of these triggers) I have JP triggers in 3 of my ARs and have a total of over 55,000 rounds fired in those weapons combined and have not had any problems with the JP triggers. One thing you do need to be aware of when using the JP trigger; sometimes the yellow hammer spring will not ignite some of the harder military primers. If you must use ammo with these types of primers just use the regular hammer spring instead of the yellow one. I have used Reloder 15 with 77 SMKs with good results. My hottest load of R-15 gave a muzzle velocity of 2620 fps from my 20" Krieger. This powder does seem to have a slower pressure curve than the VV powders I have used with the 77 SMKs and will work the action a little harder. Be sure to post your results with your new load! |
Looks to me like you did not need the stock if you shot those groups with out it. Nice rifle and nice shooting. |
