Is that your video?

If so whats up with the placement of the DBAL? It is way far back on the rail and while shooting your (or the person in the video) grip is in front of the DBAL essentially blocking it.1:38 shows it pretty well...

also nice vid.. I wish I had people around here I could shoot/train with like that. I can shoot on my own property so I can but it is much more fun with others who are also trained. Running and gunning by yourself gets boring... Only tactical critique I have is not following the military crest when going up that hill from 1:45 and so on, there is some major silhouetting going on there ( if it were real) IRL would be more optimal to stay below the crest to the left until you got closer to the targets then come up and over.

ETA: watched some of the other vids were you in 1-25?

So the DBAL is that far back because when the Elcan is at 1x it blocks less of the sight picture, and when I'm using NVGs my grip changes to closer in on the handguard to work the pressure switch and because I'm no longer looking down the sights, so it no longer blocks the laser. Good catch though. and the military crest was because .... I'm lazy and not very tactical! No I wasn't in 1-25 I was in 3-25.

And I'm sorry if you didn't like the song but I do those videos so I can g back and watch them and get amped when I haven't shot in months. And butt-rock gets me pumped!

Glad you like them! And while I feel like the 25th doesn't have the clout that say the 82nd has, I've been in the military for a while now and I honestly loved my time with them.

I edited one of the courses into a video, no music so the haters can put on their Air Supply or whatever in the background (wink wink). This one was a smoker though, believe it or not it was hard to ping those 350m targets at the end.

I have several SU-230s mounted on my Block II FSP as seen above, my Block II, and on my PR. The HD here is for my private collection so NO scuffing will be happening to it I also have 2 SU-230A HDs in 7.62, one is mounted and the other sits pretty as a collectors item with this HD.

The SU-230 reticle is much finer than the double thick civilian models. This of course means more precision. Also it does not have the cluster fuck range finder on the left hand side of the reticle so it is a much cleaner overall sight picture.

SU-230 reticle closely resembles Trijicon's TA-01NSN ACOGs reticle.

  What's the difference?

The HD version is the latest issued SOPMOD SU-230. The HD stands for heavy duty and includes a "beefed up" windage pin as well as other beefed up internals to better handle the optic eating recoil of the Scar H. Although 5.56 SU-230s are not often issued on Scar Hs it has happened as even the SOF community was having a hard time getting 7.62  SU230A HDs. All the more recent commercial versions have the same beefed up componants but do not sport the HD marking. The commercial versions also do not have the Socom reticle of the SU-230. As far as rarity goes, there were only 3-5 of each the SU230 HD and SU230A HD sold to civilians during the original batch of Socom over runs years back. Ive been lucky enough to track down 3 HD models(1 5.56 and 2 in 7.62). They are the rarest of all the over runs sold to civilians.

SU-230s were only once sold as a batch of SOCOM contract over runs several years back. To aquire one you must look here on the EE or like forums and websites, auction sites, and maybe ask nicely here in this thread :) Most these days are used and do not hold a warranty. You will pay a premium for an SU-230 as they are rare and hard to pry from peoples hands. Expect to pay up to $1000 over civilian retail for a nice condition unit. Great optic though and if your clone game is strong you want one of these.

They are the rarest of all the over runs sold to civilians.

so then people are getting su-230(hd) marked units from....

The HD units were sent to one of the largest North American distributers of the over run SU-230s. Back when they were being sold this distributer, that most of you probably bought your civilian or over run units from, set a few of the far more rare HD units aside for his personal collection. After many years of holding onto them new in box he sold them to an associate of mine for a premium and then i purchased off him when he no longer wanted or needed them. Lucky me :) The few other HD units around got shipped off to some lucky guys buying SU-230 over runs before the distributer new there were HD marked SU-230s in the over run batch.
I know for sure of 3 SU230 HD units out there(1being mine) and i know of 3 confirmed SU230A HD units out there(2 are mine). From talks with people in the know that have directly corresponded with Dan Pettry at Elcan, those units might be it in civilian hands.

not an la-5.  Just an older peq15.

la-5s ALWAYS, ALWAYS, always, have raised hand adjustable illuminator turrets among other easily distinguishable things as well.

Hell, I tried to get permission for the third buy and I was told by mods that I could not.  It's been a while, but I think I remember them saying it was because I was not a site sponsor or something like that.

Seriously though, why would he cover up the [serial?] number at the front then?

Ken's a great guy and solid Elcan dealer who was privy to a few of the SU-230 (5.56) SOCOM overruns.  However, none of the HD-marked units (Gen IIIB, technically) have ever passed through his possession.  They were a supplement to the tail end of the SOCOM 1x/4x run.  As Repr762 indicated, there are 5 or less of each caliber reticle in civilian hands.  The SU-230 (5.56)/SU-230A (7.62) contract run was formalized/fixed and produced just before some of the newer features were being introduced into the commercial line (i.e. beefed up lateral adjustment (Azimuth) rods, red loctite on set screws, etc).  The HDs are the only 1x/4x mil-units that incorporate the SOCOM reticle with all of the latest product line upgrades.

The 1.5x/6x mil-units with SOCOM reticles were produced later than the 1x/4x mil-unit contract run, so there was never a need for an HD marking for the 1.5x/6x mil-units.

Yeah, but you can buy peq15's without being law enforcement/military, no? Wait, I'm thinking of the ATPIAL-C. On L3's website they have them listed as "AN/PEQ15", and then have the price up there, as if you could buy it, but at the very bottom if you look at the power output, it's way too high, and then it says "some models are restricted".

There have been a few, not many, TA01NSNs seen on them. I do not think they were issued with them but were probably operator carryovers from older platforms.

Generally speaking the units issuing these rifles allow the shooter to use whichever optic they've got in the inventory that he prefers. So yeah TA01 is absolutely plausible.

Possible that the weapon and optics are issued separately

ETA: example - non of our issued weapons came with optics (M16A4 and M4).

Optics were in the hands of the Armory and the unit that 'bought' those optics and issued them out to whoever.
