I posted this in the silencer section this morning, but I figured you guys would find it interesting as well.

I had a couple long calls with Surefire and Silencer Shop yesterday regarding the SOCOM 556 RC, the 556 SB, and the 556 MG. If you've looked at the specs, the SB and RC are the same external size and weigh the same. The MG is about an inch and a half longer and weighs much more. The MG has much thicker baffles and is designed for use on belt-fed MG's firing long bursts. The difference between the SB and RC is that they took the super thick blast baffle from the MG and stuck it in the SB. Everything else is the same as the RC.

Warranty for barrel length is down to 10" on the RC and the SB is warrantied for barrels "shorter than 10". I asked if a 7.5" barrel was covered and Surefire said yes. They would also re-core due to baffle erosion. The SB does meter a little higher than the RC because the thicker blast baffle cuts down on volume in the can. Silencer Shop states as a shooter you can't here the difference, but the meter can.

Anyway, I picked up a second SB this morning instead of an RC. Silencer Shop restocked on the RC, but the price is back up over $1100. The SB is still at the lower $963. For a thicker blast baffle and basically the same sound suppression and $200 less, it's a no-brainer.....

ETA - figured I'd better post up some pics since it's the top of the page....

There's a 762-RC and a 556-Mini in that bottom picture.  My first 556-SB is still waiting on form 3......  Yes, that's all my stuff waiting in "jail".  More inbound.  Hurry up ATF!!!!

Thanks for the info, it does sound like a no brainer, but for me, the 7.62 mini is the no brainer of the bunch, as you can use it for 300, where a suppressor really shines.

I was also under the impression that a the SB had slightly larger baffle bore diameter. I guess that isn't true.

Ordered a SR-D-IT and teardrop forward assist. Hopefully, I'll be getting a tracking number from TNVC today or tomorrow.

Forward assist came early.

I have a 7.62 mini and I think the reduction in performance on 5.56 is quite noticeable. I'm currently hunting for a deal on the 5.56 socom now. I will say that I was impressed by the 7.62 mini on .308 and 7.62x39 so get both if you can

I have tried it on a 14.5 upper and I agree the performance gap is minimized on longer barrels. On a 10.3 barrel you can easily hear the difference.

My experience as well. Same suppressor on a 12" and a 16" produces a noticeable difference.

I was feeling like it was pretty fuggin hopeless but had an FDE one pop up yesterday for 300 shipped. Jumped on it. If you're patient it'll come. There's a black one for 300 shipped in a thread for 300 shipped if you plan to paint but the clone police will cuff you quick ;)

Stealth........here's a pic of an old Colt I have. It's what came on 603's/M16/M16A1's et al.  I wonder what shows up on issue carbines now, old Colt or new version from various mfgs? All the new mfg fa's are flat across the grooves, with some mfg's having the grooves/splines squared off instead of V'd. The old Colts look like they're worn, but that's the way they came new.

Hillside in Roanoke.  I've been in contact again with Surefire again and apparently the info I revieved was wrong.  The bore is bigger on the SB.  I ended up with a black and an FDE SB in addition to the 556 Mini and the 762 RC in the picture.

I didn't know they were class 3, that's good to know. I live in Fort Wayne, so it's good to know there are more clones near by.

Well I'm going to have some fun this week.  Since my father has a chronograph, and we'll be hitting the range together after Christmas , I figure I might as well take some readings of various ammo w/ and w/o the surefire can on, against my reloads.  It's for science! Haha

Testing:
55gr .223 PMC Bronze
75gr .223 Hornady BTHP Match

55gr 5.56 Federal M193
62gr 5.56 Winchester M855
77gr 5.56 BlackHills MK262

My reloads:
69gr SMK
77gr SMK

Hopefully it gets a new RC556 in a couple weeks, mine went pending 9/12 and a lot of stamps around then are being approved.

There's been a lot of talk about the Govnah adjustable gas blocks. They are now in stock on their website; thought some of you guys might want to know. I just ordered the MK18 3 position model (I hope I got the right one). The website doesn't give the MK18 model specs. ATPIAL-C will be here Tuesday according to Fed-Ex, pics to follow.

ECP is your spirit animal RTUtah?

Gonna clean up my current build and start a PR/Block 1.  I'm sending the barrel off to ADCO as soon as I can get these fucking BCM taper pins out of the FSB.  SOCOM RC should be purchased by Feb or March.  Not sure if I should also get an NT4 (I'm not really sure where to even buy one).  T1 will stay there until I'm ready to park an Elcan on the Block 2.

ETA: Who's got the best price on an EXPS 3-0 Tan?

Arms Unlimited has the best price I've been able to find. Add it to your cart and it should be $545 shipped.

I may be wrong, but it seems like I remember seeing somewhere on their site that with the RIS II rail only accepts the 2 position............I could be wrong though. Hope I am.

Edit......should have looked before I misspoke. They show it with a 3 pos on the site with MK18 rail.  It's hell getting old with CRS

I emailed them and here's a piece of the response: "The MK18 version is provided with a .070/.049/.082 and a .073/.052/.082 plate.  Former for milspec ammo and the latter to handle commercial and lower powered ammo.
Also note that the MK18 version is intended to be used with a rail system that can accomodate the 3 position version such as the MI SSK and the DD MK18 with possible clearance issues as pictured here: http://micromoa.com/?page_id=652#ddmk18"

Haha I see him in the Mk12. I'm trying to hold off on that clone for awhile. I will probably buy a couple more cans in January after our bonuses and I might tack on a MK12 can for just to have it in the pipe.

Looking to see some PEQ-15C and RCs soon.

TXDirtyMaxDiesel - Those are awesome. Where in Texas? I've got three days to kill in Texas.

North of Dallas.  Rural town called Gunter.  While the land isn't mine, we do have permission to use it to shoot, camp, and hunt predators and varmints.
