Can also pick up some overconfidence.

It’s going to get into the low 30’s today….I prefer to cut in these temps. You’re cold for about 15 minutes until you start working…after that you start stripping off layers because it’s too hot.

Best time to do work is when it's below freezing.

How I spent last winter with the 550 XP MkII and the inaugural cut of the 572XP I impulse bought.

Mine took a day to assemble.  I had two hiccups.  1) The original case was a short shot and had a void.  They sent me a new one and it took a month to arrive.  2) During the assembly process, I noticed the wrist pin was too long.  Probably the wrong part, but I carefully chucked it in the lathe and turned it down with carbide tooling.  That thing was probably 50-55 Rockwell C.

You'll need a crank puller tool set and a piston ring compressor.

Why 545 and not 550XP?

Looks like 545 burns less gas per the specs.

Wife is using the 545.

The 562xp also sips the gas. Both are pretty zippy. Quite a bit of a tone difference between 50cc and 60cc.

I use bone stock Echo CS-490 and Echo CS-590 Timberwolf.  I buy cheap Australian blades from Amazon on days where I'm doing cuts involving a lot ground work and Echo chains on days I'm cutting trees down.

I leave them none stock because they're reliable as hell,  choke,  pull 3 times hard, turn choke off, start, EVERY TIME and I hate dealing with carbs any more.  The 590 is not light,  but I use it 90% of the time because it's weight helps a lot of the time when cutting up firewood size pieces.

Probably Archer.  I bought two 28" loops on Ebay for $25 a piece.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/383065531651

Made in China.

I haven't tried them out yet and probably won't until next year, but they definitely need to be hit with a file.

Your opinion on OEM vs China made ?
EDIT: Would you recommend any oem parts to use in a China build ?
Carb, aftermarket piston, etc..

@rtlm

I've built a few of the Chinese saws (ms360 and ms660) and the parts that I had to replace are the oiler, and a few of the springs for the chain brake. The bar studs were replaced as well because the Chico ones were soft and stripped. They were bad. The piston, rings, crank, crankcase were pretty good as was the carb and most of the hard parts.

Smart move. I never ever ever lend out my good saws. I built my farm tech saws to lend out.

But I don't lend tools in general either anymore. I got tired of asking for them back and getting them back in dirty condition.

Husky did really good with those boxes.  Can stack them, can store extra stuff in them, can remove the original scabbard and slide a longer scabbard on for the long bars, and if you happen to put longer dogs on a large saw you can dremel the box to work.

About the only thing I would have liked to see is slots for files-they have everything except for that.
