Lava Meets Noni Farms Road, Heading Towards Kapoho (June 1, 2018)

Now they are threatening to arrest anyone refusing to evacuate. Why anyone would still be there is a mystery to me, but apparently there are some stubborn folks about.

Fantastic video, what was strange was the vapor/ gasses coming up around the rim meaning more debris will fall into the active crater. I guess it depends upon where the pressure will go. It could blow the throat clear or come out the active fissures or a combination of the two. shudder!

Looks like some major changes happened at the summit overnight.  More collapse with that 5.4 eq/eruption yesterday.

just the cams, but steam/gas is now coming out of the caldera in much higher volume than before.. the plugged hole is pushing the gasses around and out other places.

31st

2nd notice the higher volume of gasses coming through the caldera floor than two days ago.

Nice comparison pics.

Those cracks around the rim have to be growing with all that steam.

I wish they would stream live video up there instead of updating stills every 20 min or whatever.

Also wish they would do the UAS flyovers everyday.

That lake is going to evaporate? Lava flow under it maybe?

I mean it is a crater, there is a massive superhighway of lava tubes under everything on that side of the island.

Thanks for that second pic. I bet lava is pumping into the bottom of that lake or the water that feeds that lake.

The last time it was active there was a 1500ft fountain.

found a stream that was looking at the plume from Green lake.

Key word being "was."  It appears the plume is gone... water expended... now just the smoke from what ever the lava is continuing to burn it's way through.

While scanning the recommended videos on Youtube I spotted a vid that claims in the title that this whole eruption is caused by the geothermal plant.    I didn't take one for the team and watch it. I like my IQ just where it is.

You can see dry Green lake in kapoho crater, but no lava on the surface near it.

Makes you wander what really is lurking under there that boiled it but is not showing.

Thanks for the correction.  From the steaming videos I couldn't tell if the lava actually hit the lake and that color threw me off.

It's a bit hard to see but this is the one pic I've found that shows the lake in contact with the lava.  It just snaked around the side of crater wall to get to it with a thin finger of a flow.  It was taken at 1:30pm Hawaii time.  4:30pm Pacific.

By now(10pm Hawaii time) the 400 foot deep lake is certainly dried up and filled by lava.  Probably has been for a few hours.  When the plume stopped ... that likely was when the water was no more.

Interdasting. I'm not familiar with the scales, but what's the rough impoundment? It looks more like a pond than a "lake", by CONUS standards. "Lake" and "Pond" not being a technical metric, but only a naming convention.
Link Posted: 6/3/2018 3:27:35 AM EST

Not that even a whole pond boiling is in any way not impressive. That's a lot of calories.

A pond. Several acres, at least. Boiling.

So likely 3 and 1/2 hours to completely boil it away.  and fill it in.
