But it doesn't have to be Miami Vice.  We're talking 70s AND 80s!  You can do Starsky & Hutch.  You can do Dirty Harry Callahan.  You can do a 70s biker dude. You can do the A-Team.

Options are everywhere!

Gotta start a stage proned out on the hood of a car TJ Hooker style.

Unfortunately, actually riding the hood of a moving car would prove difficult logistically.

There was also an early M24 in one of the Miami Vice shows where the SWAT Team surrounded a building near the beach IIRC.

Dressing up like one of the other guys on the vice team would be much easier than Crockett or Tubbs. They wore Cuban/bowling/Hawaiian shirts and jeans.
Crockett and Tubbs wore Italian suits. Expensive dress shoes.

If you are a female, it would much harder to find 80's fashion clothes.

I can see how this would appeal to me like CAS does to old folks.

Aside from the 80s clothes, you have to get the vice/narc look:
necklace badge holders
belt badge holder
external vest carrier with POLICE on the back
Leather shoulder holsters.

It would all be reusable for "Tango & Cash", "Raw Deal", "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon" scenarios.

As long as it is a fun focused event I’m in.

There should be a no whining rule. If you want to be a gamer and do gamer shit there are plenty of other places to do that. To prevent this, weak sauce ammo, and other abominations, I suggest that a judge panel with enforcable and humorous penalties be established, in the vein of the 24 Hours of Lemons automobile races. I also nominate @Miami_JBT as the chief justice of said panel. That system has worked well for the 24 Hours of Lemons, and kept most of the whiny babies away.

Gun classifications should be broad and not whiny “muh Colt that breaks all time should be legal but Vaqueros that work shouldn’t” bs.

Clothes should be period but if the best you can do is your Costco slacks and a Members Only jacket from Goodwill you’re ok. Have a prize for the best outfit as voted by the judge panel along with a best people’s choice outfit.

I see you have your A-team rifle.  I guess in an appropriate competition, you would be scored on how many targets you miss and if you accidentally hit one, you are disqualified.

I've been bouncing ideas back and forth.

I would allow Gen 2 Glocks in with no problems and modern production guns like a CZ-75B or Sig M228A1 because they don't have accessory rails since some period guns are getting pricey for folks. Legit West German Sigs ain't cheap anymore. As for ARs, I'd allow a Flattop Gun if it is configured in this manner.

Carry Handle as the sights and A2 Furniture.  But there would be an added time penalty to the match for the shooter.

The better period correct costume and equipment could be a small time credit to the shooter.

I'd also try to set up stages that are both rifle and shotgun friendly. So if you want to run the course with a shotgun. You can do well. Same with a rifle.

My S&W Model 544 Texas Train Wagon Commemorative in .44-40 would be a fun gun for a match or two.

I'm thinking of being a little flexible with ARs because of prices. Like I said, a flattop with a detachable carry handle would be allowed if I ran it as long as the rifle was configured in the spirit of the era. That means A2 Carbine or M4 handguards. A2 or A1 pistol grip. No magpul furniture.

Because part of the issue with a lot of gun games is it becomes gun golf and that is pricey as shit for a lot of folks. The idea of FUN

What about 1911s? Because around the 80s is when all the "necessities" like beavertails and high profile sights started happening.

But if we have one of these close to Houston, I do have this and a set of old Pachs I could put on it.

A2 uppers are cheap....pretty easy to come up with an A1 carbie if m4 barrels are GTG.

I'm thinking if this comes to pass, I'm getting an old Ithaca 37 chopped to 18".  I'll need to find some corn cob forend on it.
