On a serious note, I personally like Ed Avila Sr, as I've met him and chatted with him a bit. The rest of AR15.com staff and mods, I don't know any of these people personally, for the most part I find these people to be ok. It puzzles me though, that no one had a big enough brain to sit down and figure out / chart the growth rate for this place, and to have an understanding for the ratio of mods:members necessary for smooth operations? Just because it's the internet does not mean it has to scale infinitely. That does not work in nature, not sure why anyone thought it would work in virtual reality. GD should either be pay to enter, time on site to enter, number of posts to enter and likewise, number of infractions to be booted, with a mandatory minimum time off period before re-entry. Old infractions needs to drop off after a certain amount of time. Otherwise, long time members are penalized for warnings and time outs they received many years ago

I like TBS and the changes look like a step in the right direction. I am very optimistic!

Depends on who these "new moderators" are and how over-zealous they are.
I have a few dings on my account and I don't think I was ever done wrong in the past. I just hope people don't start getting banned for trivial bullshit that makes GD fun. |

Anyone who thinks that this happened after goatboys meeting with our new corporate overlords and this has nothing to do with new ownership has their head in the sand. Once anything corporate happens and their legal teams and insurance starts digging changes will come. The fact that the first sentence in the announcement states that this has nothing to do with Brownells is just projecting. View Quote |

The insults thing is pathetic, if being called a name bothers a member that much then they should be banned. We all talk about liberal snow flakes, yet here we are (sorry if I called any of you other members a liberal snow flake just now, I’d hate to offend you).

Define trolling... Are we talking about insignificant time wasters like trolling about average chili dogs from the Midwest or strictly serious topics? Or just anything someone claims as a troll?
ETA: I see that definition is pending. This should be good. |

I think it sounds like people who can't conduct themselves like reasonable adults will be gone, and that's a good thing. View Quote I'm more in the camp of almost unlimited exchange and restraint in the form of ideas, politics, etc. The infantile topics of dick pics, trannies, fetishes, etc. seem a total waste of time, and there are untold numbers of sites that cover and allow unfettered access for those interests...but...again...there's that personal opinion based metric rearing its ugly head. Humor should not be on the chopping block, but where humor and horrendously bad taste cross a vague line does actually exist. |

I see this on another site I frequent. It depends solely on the mods. Ive seen it done fairly and unfairly.
Ive seen mods troll and flame like a regular poster to goad a reaction out of a poster, they respond, and they get nailed for it. Ive seen it here too. Mods tell people in a thread to behave, a mod comes in a trolls same as anyone else, when people bite, he threatens to close the thread. So on one hand I do appreciate a mechanism to keep the mods honest but it can certainly take this place to a zero fun place quick if over done. Judgement...all about judgement. My advice to mods, start with warnings. A lot of them. Without these types of rules for so long, a lot of us wont know where the line is. It may be unitentional. Like you have to learn, we have to learn. We arent all privied to every warning either. Just things to keep in mind. |

Having been around since 2003, I generally trust the site's leadership. When TBS posts something, I take him at his word.
There's no denying the site has shifted a ton in GD in the last 4-6 years. Known agitators toe the line but trigger otherwise good members to get timeouts and bans. Sounds like we'll finally get rid of the agitators. Being the Wild West is fine. There were rules, people were civilized, but things were rough around the edges and you could be shot for being an asshole, it was the risk. What it seems many want is anarchy, where you go to bed and your hose is lit on fire for the lulz. There are plenty of places on the internet you can go if you like anarchy. It doesn't need to be here. |

Trolling is like pornography.
I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. Attempting to codify a definition for trolling will only end in heartache for everyone involved. Absolutely atrocious decision to try to do so. |
