At 17 I almost wonder if it's too late. I imagine most humans are done growing at that point. I'm almost 6-03 and sometimes wish I was a little shorter. I wouldn't worry about it. Barring some sort of medical issue, he may just be short. Neither of you are very tall, so it makes sense.

Quoted: Has he been evaluated by an endocrinologist? If not, talk with your family doctor about a referral and HGH supplements. I'm sure you are proud of him and love him just as he is. Make sure he knows that and help him see he can do anything even if he doesn't get taller. He needs to focus on muscle… if he can’t be tall, he can be strong and muscular, which from a confidence and getting chicks perspective will be nearly as good.
Horizontal growth we can control, vertical not so much. |

"Teen" boy?
Are we allowed to say those 2 words together now a days? Akxing for a friend... |

If you are looking for a serious answer-
Go see your pediatrician and get a referral to a hormonal specialist. There are growth hormones that they give to kids that are on the small side. It's generally for twins and similar. They do work and work well, but have to be carefully monitored and the dosages are specific. You have a VERY limited time window to do this as it won't work after they are done growing. |

My father was 5'9 when he graduated from high school and ended up 6'4" by the end of his freshman year of college.
Chances are OP, you boy will hit a growth spurt |
|
Quoted: I had a friend many years ago who started just minor working out and het got 3 inches taller at age 19, strangest thing as I figured at that age you just would not grow taller but he did. I assume either it was due to increased hormones from the activity or late grow spurt. View Quote I had a late growth spurt between 19 and probably 22 or 23. I grew another inch and a quarter, just slowly. It happens. Best I can tell, the growth plates weren’t fully closed plus I was getting better nutrition on a consistent basis. |

Quoted: Aren't most males done growing by 17, females might take a little longer ? View Quote I thought some folks keep growing and changing until 25 nowadays? Also, that old saw "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog" is pretty much true. Some of the toughest, best men I've ever known have been on the short side. |

Growth hormone worked for my son but he started at 10 and is now huge at 15.

At 17, it's likely too late to have a huge impact.
I'd suggest milk and lots of it. Studies show it adds a couple inches to overall height (when given to children). Supplementing with arginine has also been associated with increased growth velocity - it stimulates the release of more HGH. But, as mentioned, at 17 the window is almost closed for outside influences having an effect. |

If it bothers him later, he can get taller for a price . Essentially the same answer as if you were asking how to get your daughter to grow bigger breasts...they can pay for that as an adult if nature doesn't provide.
Or, just enjoy manlet status, I'm in upper end of yellow on the chart and I hit my head on a lot of shit. Down the road, if I go bald and shave my head, it probably will look bumpier and more scared than a secondary street in Detroit. |

I was 5'9" when I was 20, by the time I hit 25 I was/am exactly 6'.

Put cowshit in his sneakers…that’s what they use to ask my dad when they saw my 6’4” frame…

Just teach him that it doesn’t matter.
I have friend who is 5’5”. He is the CEO of a largish company and salary is over $3 million a year. |

Marry a tall wife. Or a wife with tall family members. Or be tall yourself.
Hard to beat genetics, so none of that might work. |

Quoted: Tell him he has a really bright future as he'll fit everywhere. But he might need a stepladder... At 6'3", I can tell you, being overly tall is not exactly easy either. At 17 he is pretty much done, possibly a couple of inches more before full height.
The genetics ae the biggest factor with lots of sunshine and milk (calcium) as he is growing up. Did he spend a lot of time outside growing up? |

Quoted: I have a son who is about 5' 5" and almost 17 years old. He was on the small size when born. I'm 5' 9" and my wife is 5' 4". Any ideas on how to help him grow taller? I was 6'-3" in high school and into my 30s but started to shrink some and mid 40s I'm only 6'-2" now. Doc said discs in vertebrae flatten out or something. He doesn't think I'll lose much more if any. I've often wondered if an inversion table would be worth it.

Are you bothered by his height or is he?
Does he do well in school, smart, honest, trustworthy? Focus on what matters in life. |

MK677/Ibutamoren...supposedly if you use it within a certain window during puberty.

Boys will grow until they are like 21 or 22. Make sure he gets plenty of sleep and food. Other than that, there is not much you can do, it is in the genes.

ETA: Never really thought about or was concerned with height. Held my own in any scrape I was in even though my opponents were usually taller. That's exactly how it went for my younger brother. My wife who is barely 5ft now, said in high school she was taller than my brother. He ended up around 5ft 9 or 10. I'm 6ft and a few inches taller than him. |

Quoted: My 14.5 y/o son is just 5' even right now, clearly shorter than his peer group, and shorter than his older brothers were at that age. Took him to a pediatric endocrinologist for the proper work-up, turns out he has a growth hormone deficiency. So now he takes HGH injected daily, and another medication that prevents testosterone from converting to estrogen. This gives him the hormones he needs to grow to his maximum genetic potential, and prevents the bones from stopping their growth too soon, so he gets even longer to grow. He's about 1/2 to 2/3 through puberty, so we are cautiously optimistic he will get to 5-7 or maybe taller. We'll see. So the point of the story is that without the proper work-up, which includes bone age x-rays as well as blood tests for the hormones, all you are doing is guessing and hoping. Get him in to the pediatrician, and start the necessary referrals to a pediatric endocrinologist and get some real, actionable info. Might turn out that you missed the boat on the supplementation, but at least you will know what to reasonably expect going forward. View Quote I had no idea such things were possible. Thanks for posting. |

That not even “short”.
If it bothers him, tell him to man up. If it bothers YOU, re-evaluate. |
