A rosery won't help them now.
Sanibel is taking a direct hit from a CAT 4 verging on CAT 5. That's, more than likely, not survivable.

Just incredibly sad and heart wrenching.
Thinking about what going on inside them as I type this... chills me.

Yes, our primary house is on Sanibel.  We're starting to establish a presence on the ARFCOM island which is inland a bit, but still in the hurricane strength windfield.  The island is covered with old 100' tall oak trees, which are beautiful until a storm like this rolls in.  Everyone has been evacuated from both.  I honestly don't know if either will survive intact and be habitable.

I don't know how else to say it but I'm in a position to replace property and recover without insurance - whereas most of the fixed income retirees are not.  I had a safe place to flee and be comfortable.  Most did not.  I have heavy equipment staged for cleanup.  Most people would think it's strange to sit here feeling great while my properties are likely being destroyed, but I consider myself very fortunate.  I'm good.  I worry about everyone else....

I thought I recall from one of your earlier threads about your yacht and morning situation that you lived right over where this thing is making landfall, am I mistaken?

Glad you're not in the danger zone now but hope your property isn't about to get smacked.

I'm in the same position.

My biggest concern will be finding help that is available and not incompetent. I do have all the time in the world being retired to do what I can. I have remodeled a bunch of stuff in my lifetime...

Anyone heard/seen anything out of Venice? My mom texted to say the power went out an hour ago. Haven't heard back from her since.

I'm assuming cell towers are going down.

Probably the closest is these guys. They are between Englewood and Venice.  The feed keeps going in and out. I'm surprised they have anything at all cell coverage wise.

I’m in Venice. So far my lace is ok. My fields are flooded about three feet deep but my house sits on a little hill so it’s another 3-4 higher that any of the fields or pastures. I would guess winds over 100. I lost at least one large oak from what I can see from inside

ETA: I was obviously focusing on the wrong buildings. It's amazing buildings that large would stay together to float like that.

+1

The feed is intermittent and I didn't know the area at first glance.

They guys around the corner from my house can't get cell service.

Good thing he’s so short. A couple summers back he was blocking my beach access to give a final send off after the storm passed. Me and my buddies had our surfboards and were patiently waiting for him to finish so we could go surf. He did a few takes and finally signed off. I was surprised how short he was when we walked past him. I guess that’s an asset when bolts are falling from the sky and looking for the high spots.

People need to stay put, the storm surges will recede very fast, the big risk is power cables. Sitting on roof for a night is much safer than wading through chest high water.

Lost a huge oak tree & expect to lose more.
House is rocking but solid so far.
I have one oak just off the corner of my rear porch, if that hits the porched I'm fucked over big time.
Been down stairs watching the world blow away lol. Good luck to you all. I may have major repairs after this.
