The plan will go into effect within 24 hours, below are its main points : 1. Any citizen who meets the detailed tests for carrying a private firearm due to self-defense and service of the security forces, and has no criminal or medical record, will be required to undergo a telephone interview instead of a physical interview, and will be able to receive permission to carry a firearm within a week. Any citizen who received a conditional permit to purchase a firearm and did not purchase a firearm during the year 2023 and the conditional license has expired, will be able to purchase a firearm now without the need to submit another application. View Quote As soon as the conflict is over, they will go back to their totalitarian BS just like Zelenskyy did by asking Ukrainians in the western 3/4 of the country to turn the government issued guns back in (and they didn't do it because they were short on weapons as most were stored in local arsenals assigned to be given back to Ukrainian it was issued to in case fighting came to their area). Zelenskyy has also fought the opening up of gun ownership in the past and has done zero to expand gun rights. |

Jews here overwhelmingly vote Democrat even though the Democrat party hates Israel and supports Palestinians. Israelis are being slaughtered by a few neighborhoods of people they knew were there, knew were armed, and they still wouldn't let their people protect themselves.
They will change nothing. The USA does the same thing. We put kids out there with empty rifles and no ammo on guard duty, and people die from it every time. |

Quoted: This is what I've been saying. It's fucking ridiculous that people live next to Palestine and must demonstrate a need to have a gun? you would figure every man woman and child in that country would have at least half a dozen guns, a few grenades and maybe some claymores plus thousands of rounds of ammo. How many civilians died in the last 36 hours because they had no means to defend themselves? View Quote At the same time it’s a very different life than here. You have people trying and successfully infiltrating everyday. In their state they have to be strict about it. It’s absurd that people living near the border or in smaller villages have limits on ammo though and how many arms they can have. Although a loophole is always “need it for work”. |

Hell, listen to judges talk about our 2A in terms of "a person has a right to keep a gun." "A" gun. Not "as many guns as they want to have". Then, how many self-defense shootings involve more than 50 rounds? When I was a kid, I used to see pics of farmers near the borders driving their tractors with an Uzi strapped on, so I assumed carrying guns in Israel was the norm. Found out years later from reading a gun rag that this was NOT the norm.

The Realities of Gun Ownership in Israel |
|
It's worthwhile to remember that one of the key factors driving the anti-gun sentiment in Israel stems from the fact that there is no hunting----"blood sport"----or firearms tradition among the people of the Jewish faith. That said, hunting and firearms more or less go hand in hand and the fact is, in many countries of "old Europe," Jews were not allowed to participate in hunting sports and, in other cases, not allowed to own firearms.
Historically, Jews were driven out of or otherwise banished from countries such as England, France, Austria and the like, with many of them fleeing to Poland and some sectors of Germany. Similarly, in some areas of Europe, Jewish folks were not allowed to own land &/or more or less driven-off of the land, with them heading to towns and cities to take-up "urban occupations," such as craftsmen, jewelers, merchants and money-lenders. Think about it......do you know many Jewish farmers? Tradition plays a strong role in determining participation and support for hunting, gun ownership and shooting sports, etc., and when it comes to people of the Jewish religion, there just is no "connection." |

I know it's cliche to say this, but you'd think that a people who endured the Holocaust would be the most vociferously pro-civilian gun owners around, both here and over there. But they're not.
Of course there are exceptions (including many longtime members here, as well as these guys), but by and large, Jews are not big on the 2A. Just had a debate with a Jewish coworker last week who thinks all ARs should require a tax stamp. |

I challenged another poster's assertion that modern Israel doesn't have a culture of firearms ownership because it has no hunting culture. This is wrong. The Hebrews used weapons many times in the Old Testament to slay their enemies. You can believe it was God's will or not, but it's completely beside the point. The Hebrews used weapons constantly throughout the OT, not to kill animals for food, but to kill their enemies. This is not in dispute. Furthermore, our Founding Documents draw heavily from the Bible. This also is not in dispute. Our rights are given to us by our Creator, the same Creator that guides the Hebrews in the OT. You can believe it or not. |

"Liberal" refers to the English liberal tradition from which we derive our core civic values: thinkers like Smith and Locke. Progressives hijacked this term. It is not rightfully theirs, as their beliefs are mostly unrelated to that intellectual tradition. |
