Donald Wick vs CNN #FakeNews |

The first one was better. I have seen the second one twice, and both times I remember thinking to myself "he has used that exact same takedown over and over." Sure, it only has to work once on each guy...they never get a chance to learn for the next time. But it just got to be stupidly, boringly repetitive. They got really lazy for the second one.
the first was great--a fresh, stylish story with tons of action, a bit of wit, and great visuals..
2 came across like everyone who did the first one got better jobs, leaving the JV squad to offer 90 min of fan service and FX packaged as a sequel. it wasn't awful, but there just wasn't much to it. |
The heightened reality of the expanded hidden world in the sequel was very interesting, I hope they move on to The High Table and a conflict between it and The Continental in the next film.
I thought JWll was excellent. |
He should have shot his toe off about 8 times. Hard to be a badass when you're two tootsies down and leaving blood on the marble floor.
The first was perfect in its simplicity. What are the three things of a man that you don't fuck with. His wife, his car and his dog. They stole his car, killed his dog and in killing the dog they stole the last gift that his wife had given.

They wasted 2/3 of JW2 just trying to get to a possible JW3.
Not saying I didn't enjoy it, but the story line is shit. That's ok for porn with titties and money shots, but this had neither. JW3 has to be motherfucking epic or people will blow it off. |

You guys find enjoyment in anything besides finding stupid shit to bitch about? The John Wick franchise is easily the best contribution to cinematic gunplay in the last decade. How anyone could be so incensed to be compelled to shut it off mid viewing is beyond me. View Quote Sean Bean's in it. Click To View Spoiler He dies.

#1 was really well filmed with incredible lighting.
#2 was a better than average shootem up. |
JW1 was good, not great, but enjoyable despite the level of "WTF?" it displayed.
Unfortunately JW2 replaced the enjoyment with more "WTF?" than I could handle. It sucked. |

The first one was a brainless shoot-em-up, which isn't necessarily bad. It did, at least, have a fun twist as to *why* he was doing it. The second felt more like "Hey, the first one made some money, let's make a second one. Nah, we don't need to spend so much time on the plot this time." View Quote It was nothing but mindless killing/gun play, with a plot that was drawn up in less than 2 hours. It's seriously him just putting dudes heads in some kind of a leg lock, then shooting them in the head <rinse & repeat> |
I dunno, I had a good time with both....I just wasn't expecting a deep plot, just looking for high-revving action.
John Wick II sucked monkey balls! Saw Atomic Blonde on a flight yesterday and that was 1000 times better and more believable.
Sweet ass gunfighting press checks in 2...
Specially the one handed over or under or whatever. |
Frankly, I preferred the second one. After all the hype, the first left me underwhelmed when I finally saw it.
The issue with JW2 was that it lessened the character of John Wick.
If too many people do what he does and he is so evenly matched with Common's character, it makes John less remarkable. And instead of being a principled follower of a code as he was in the first, he now became a guy who owes his entire retirement to a debt that he never intended to pay. |

I liked them both, but the first was better. The problem with the second movie is that it just builds upon the hokey "hitman gentlemen's agreement culture" that was the weakest part of the first movie. The first movie should have written the amnesty hotel out of the plot. The second movie made it the central plot device. And bulletproof designer suits are pretty hokey too. View Quote But I will say I really liked justin bieber in 2. They really made an interesting character for him. Like why is he only using sign language. And I don't want to sound guy but he was kinda hot too. |

I really enjoy the 3 gun competition in the middle of John Wick 2.
Both movies are great. Very few movies are ever able to meet expectations. I went into the movie looking for a bunch of people getting killed. I was happy. |
The first one rocked. The second was just stupid. Three gun match after three gun match, yawn!

Am I the only one who wonders why Keanu Reeves, a guy who simply can't act to save his life, is an A-list Hollywood celebrity? He fills his role well. It seems that for action movies, a lot of directors want a mostly emotionless and quiet lead male actor. Look at the others in the same boat. In the past Tom Cruise has shown a great acting range but in the past couple of years he is the "quiet action hero." Oblivion, Mission Impossible, etc. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Watched it on HBOGo a couple of nights ago. Enjoyed it for what is was: a popcorn movie with over the top gun play
It was a pleasant, mindless diversion for a couple of hours. I wasn't expecting Macbeth, and I wasn't disappointed. I liked the original much more, but that was expected. Was wondering what they'd use as a plot device (the marker). |

Some of the comments in this thread make me second-guess asking for advice on arfcom ...
JW1 was awesome on many levels (not including Reeves' acting but it's Reeves) and if you don't understand you've never loved a woman, never driven a real car, never had a good dog or just lack a pair. JW2 was less awesome, but - for those not paying attention - he wanted his car because his woman's card was in the glove box. Again, the theme is an unequaled assassin leaves his calling for the love of a woman - don't fk with his woman or her memory. But I agree that they diminished the character *IF* he never planned to honor the marker. And the gunplay was kinda like a 90min 3-gun stage - which has negative application in the real world to begin with. And the mute chic - just WTF?!?!?!?? Still ... ya gotta give Reeves props for having actual skills that would best most of us here. Just sayin ... |

I loved the first one...I only liked the second...I love the cop, noise complaint scene in the first one.

but John Wick was so much better. And before the regulars come in here and call both movies mindless stupid shoot ‘em up weak plot film garbage, I recognize them both for what they aren’t. But what the first film has is style and a fantastic cast. Willem Dafoe and Michael Nyqvist both kill it in this movie. With a pretty decent score and soundtrack and crisp visuals, I mean, how could it not have become an instant cult classic? Plus, we get to see slimey Theon Grayjoy get offed. John Wick 2 had virtually become a caricature of the universe it created by the end of the second film. I’m really hoping that 3 takes a different approach while still preserving the style and gunplay we have enjoyed throughout the series. View Quote Agreed. The problem with John Wick 2 was the following: Not enough gun fights. The first movie was gun fight to gun fight almost back to back. The second had a lot of build up to it, but the story isn't exactly all that intelligent or great. The more the focus on the silly story, the more ridiculous it all starts to feel. The first film was about pure revenge and lots of shooting action. The moment it becomes more than that and the gunplay falls to the side, the less interesting it became. I think the first movie is a classic even if the story is mediocre. The second is something you'd probably just skip to the action scenes when re-viewing. I will certainly be interested in seeing how the wrap up the 3rd film. |
